Will eventually need surgery but was expected to play through the pain this year. Played in the intrasquad game on Saturday. Coach Robichaux told me he expected Bowman to play this season.

I could be wrong, but I don't hear about other programs having as many injuries as we do. It seems like every year we have a pitcher undergo Tommy John surgery. What is the deal with all the injuries. Are we that snake bit?

I dont think that it is so much snake bit, I have been told by plenty of athletes that they are not that impress with our strength and conditioning coaches.

I don't know about all the conditioning coaches, but you must not be talking to the same athletes that are trained by Phillips. I haven't spoken to one that had anything negative to say about Phillips.

Anecdotally, I don't think our pitchers have more surgeries than other teams. You rarely hear about the guys that are rehabbing anyway. I know of two or three TJ cases here in the past few years, a relatively low number. In my opinion we know how to maximize innings without high pitch counts or risking arms.

TJ surgery has many possible root causes including genetics, mechanics, playing history from little league through high school, among other things. The record speaks for itself. We handle pitchers very well.

T all other sports at UL are neglected by the strength and conditioning staff aside from football. Or at least that is what I have been told by two former track coaches and they mentioned other sports complained as well.

A lot of that has to do with the pitiful weight room and terribly understaffed strength and conditioning staff. IMO each program should have their own full time strength coach, football has Phillips, men and women basketball need someone full time, softball and baseball need a full time guy and Track needs a full time guy as well. Each of these sports require drastically different weight training regimens and they do not receive the proper training needed to compete and stay healthy IMO.

I would like to see benzel at 3rd, hicks at short and bostick at 2nd. Masch and harst rotate at 1st, smith in right bowman in center and whipple in left. Griffen i think will be the starter at the plate, maybe not right away but eventually. i think we will be overall a better baseball team than last year. _
I can see smith being another Goulas. the little bit i saw him throwning it around theoutfield he looked like he had a really good arm. And being he was in the homerun contest as a freshman, i asume he has good power

Coach Robe told me today that Bowman will be evaluated again on Thursday. Redshirt is possible.

I totally agree and have heard the same complaints from athletes in the "other" sports.
