With UL and Arkansas State shooting like there was a lid on the basket, it was obvious that timely buckets and strong defense would decide Saturday's winner.

The Cajuns got a little of both in a 54-50 win at the Cajundome.

It all started on the defensive end as UL held the Red Wolves without a field goal after Larry Handy's basket with 4:45 to play gave his team a five-point lead. The Cajuns (9-16 overall, 6-8 Sun Belt) closed out the game with an 11-2 run to end a two-game slide.
