I question 3 things 1. Have you ever tailgated before? 2. Have you ever made NEW friends before? 3. Aren't you the one that said 3 weeks was plenty of notice?

Listen up crazy! I never even insinuated that the university couldn't tell me what I could I could not do/put in the tailgate area. Certainly they can. What I said was that there is no good reason to dictate every detail just because you can. As far as finding new friends that are willing to help?? (I probably shouldn't respond to that ridiculous line, but I will anyway): I make my way to five or six different tailgate spots to visit with my "friends that are willing to help". Like me, they are hosting lots of people of varying degrees of fandom. Anywhere from 30 to 50 people will make our their way through our one little tailgate spot on a given game day. Most of those people are friends and acquaintances that would (like most of us here) make their way to Cajun Field for the game regardless. Tailgating gives them the opportunity to come out earlier and visit with friends and get ready to "protect the house". I've got eight family members that come from Baton Rouge and Mandeville for every game. None of them attended UL, they are not diehard fans (yet), and if I didn't bug the crap out of them to buy season tickets they would probably only make it to 50% of the games. You see, my 71-year-old dad is not going to drive two and half hours to jump out of his car, go into the stadium, and drive right back afterwards. If he couldn't sit and relax, eat and drink… tailgate for a couple of hours before the game he wouldn't come at all. I don't blame him one bit and I'm sure there are many hundreds of others in similar situations. You see, if these "new" rules (not "better") lead to decreased participation in tailgating, it will lead to decreased attendance figures as well. You said our numbers would not go down, but that attendance figures would skyrocket… Don't misunderstand me. We are experiencing tremendous sucess in recent years, which has lead to increased demand, and it is awesome. But when/if the flow begins to ebb....

The bottom line? Only one step is necessary to correct the problem. Enforce the rules! Vehicles must be into the tailgate area by noon. After 12 PM vehicles are not permitted to move until after kick off. Just enforce the guidelines already established and there will be absolutely no one being run over.

I'm suddenly reminded of our nation's southern border. There's no reason to write new laws when the current laws would suffice. We be amazed at how many problems would cease to exist if we enforced what is already in place.

So out of all those people. If you were to ask, would none of them give you a hand loading your car before the game? That was my point, if you can't find a few people out of 30 that would be willing to help, then maybe you need new friends. All this will involve, is either better planning or a little excercise...neither will kill you. Bring less crap, figure out a way to lock stuff up, adapt...or don't, I don't really care. If you want to let this ruin your life go ahead.

My point is that it's completely unnecessary and creates more problems than it solves. I think that is the point most people that object are getting at. Unintended consequences.

Why are we still doing this? If I get tired of arguing about a topic...you know it's old.
