Why are they not using the lot at the NW corner of Cajundome and Congress anymore? Either general parking or make it a freaking tailgate lot only. Use it though at least.
I have witnessed several cars in D lot towed for not having tags. Our spot is right next to the gravel and they have people checking vehicles all day long. Last year it was mainly a problem for cars who went and parked on Friday. After 10 am they usually have people restricting access in at the gate.
What I think would have been a better move at least for this year is to increase the tailgat spot fee by $300 or $400 and allow the TG passes to be able to park in D as usual. This would have probably have been an easier pill to swallow on short notice for most people and could be absorbed by the whole group.
Even when it is all said and done the cost for tailgating is still the best deal in town. Be glad you got in when you did, because there are plenty of people who would like to have our problems right now. A second pass for me is a necessity to ensure my enjoyment of the day, as my wife arrives later in the day and would not come without a parking pass, so I ponied up and paid the extra $200 to get to the $500 level. Like CajunHawk I would have preferred to split it over 12 months instead of 5 but know ahead of time for next year.
This is exactly why the rules are being changed (not blaming you btw b/c my family is guilty of shuffling passes around for the non-rcaf members).
In the past, $250 basically got you 3 parking passes inside Cajun Field. Now, it's get you 1.....If enforced correctly, friends and family will now need to car pool with you or pony up at minimum $250 if they don't wanna walk from Holiday Inn field.
If its important enough to them, they will pay up. If not, they won't come. That's the options that are available.
This is what has always baffled me. It's human nature, though, I guess. People will do anything to skirt the system, but when it is a cluster_____, they complain. If people follow the rules, things would run a lot smoother. Instead the people who make the rules are challenged as to how they will enforce it or that they can make all the rules they want because no one will abide by them anyway. Let's start policing things ourselves and make it easier on everyone involved.
To change that thinking pattern...what was wrong with the two hang tags getting to park in the gravel? Why hit these people more than once? We are already committed. We all have to have more than one season ticket, a $250 RCAF donation, and the cost of the spot. Why are we the piggy bank that has to pony up for more on parking fees? If it's money...increase the spot fees or RCAF donation amount. Don't mask it in the shroud of parking lot fees. Some tailgating spots have multiple people who are involved in the running of the spot. That is what made the hang tags worth it. I understand forcing people who normally parked in their spot to park in the gravel...but you didn't have to make them pony up another $250 for it. It's the free loaders who show up just to tailgate and leave that the $250 was supposed to hit last year. I understood that...100%. This...it's biting the hands that feed. We are already here. We aren't on the fence about anything. Increase our spot...we will pay it. Increase our RCAF donation...we will pay it. Change the parking structure to move vehicles out of spots and into the gravel...we will adjust to it. Making those same people pony up again after we thought we knew how much our spot was going to cost heading into August...that's just a complete dick move. They deserve all the headache this comes along with.
