Thread: Tail Gate Spot Parking Policy (merged)

As I mentioned in another thread about this, we will all adapt and move on from these changes and in the end, they probably won't even enforce some of these rules and timelines as much as they do in the beginning of the year. However, I will agree that the changes are a little interesting to me because like many of you, I've been tailgating for probably the last 10-12 years. We now have multiple spots to handle our large crew. Every week, I scan the entire TG area at around 1 or 2 and mention that I thought there would be more people here than there are. It seems to me that even with our increased success, the TG area hasn't really seen the major spikes in people actually tailgating in that area. I'm not saying there aren't more people but the same people seem to show up every week and do their thing and the same people tend to just keep their spot and not show up every week as well.

In other words, I'm not sure we are seeing a major shift in the TG numbers that would potentially warrant such shifts in policy. I can understand the car thing although I will admit that I used to really enjoy being able to park in my spot when we were a much smaller outfit. It just seems to me that the density of the TG hasn't really changed over the last few years and I would even argue its thinned out a bit since we used to have several fraternities and sororities in our general vicinity and they would bring large numbers.

I actually like the fact that they will enforce the 6 hour rule. We were lucky enough to get a spot 2 years ago, but we could never use our whole spot because cars were constantly passing through to get to their tailgate spot, not only was it DANGEROUS for our kids to play in OUR tailgate spot but a nuisance when we would try to set up a game of ladder ball or house shoes.

And after the game we never had a problem getting to our spot immediately after the game to pack up. It will be hard for those who have to park behind the Hilton to get to their spots. But if you park in Cajun field you should be just fine.

If they enforce the new rules (that look good on paper) this will be the last year for a lot older people.

In the future only the young will tailgate or should I say picnic in the parking lot.

Would that lack of TG increase or density maybe have something to do with no TG spots being available and a waiting list for open spots. If you can't get a spot, you can't put more TG groups. Maybe that's why they are trying to eliminate cars in the TG area to increase the available TG spots?

The only way that works is for the Admin. to forcefully take away some TG spots from current paying customers just to give them to someone else.

    I see lawsuits.

Also, for those of you who support this insanity, just know that the same logic would apply to season ticket holders in the chairbacks.

Empty seats? Well, you obviously have too many season tickets. We'll just take, oh, half of your current season tickets and give them to other people. After all, we're just trying to grow the RCAF, right?

    This analogy doesn't make sense.

Or you raise the price of those tickets to a point where people won't pay to not go. They will either drop them, start going or put them to use. You will still have some that stay empty but there is price point where the majority will start having butts in those seats. Nobody is forcing you to give up your spot.

If you are willing to take the chance of leaving your stuff unattended overnight you can start setting up for tailgating after 12 noon the day before home games. I've done it quite a few times because the big bbq pit needs to be brought in on a trailer that they won't let me haul in on game day. I've never had any problems with things going missing. Fortunately our spot has a few well anchored items to chain things too if needed but things like folding tables and chairs don't walk away.

Maybe I'm more trusting than some but it makes game day much more enjoyable being able to show up at a reasonable hour and not have to haul a truck load of stuff around.

It appears we are charging 125.00 a game to TG at Blackham this year. I read that in the policy and said that can't be right but a buddy called and they confirmed to him and said that was correct.

Our university banned automobiles from an activity named after the back of an automobile.
