Don't be surprised if the same thing that happened to softball last weekend happens to baseball this weekend or worse, we get swept. What has happened to UL athletics? It appears to have sunken to its worse year, maybe ever, as a composite sports program. Football (after 10 years, we only manage to break even this season), Basketball (men's the worse in the SBC) (womens' the worse in the country), Softball (open up losing 2 of 3 to lowly Ole Miss, at home), Tennis (women 0-4 to open season) (men play Southern & Alcorn State - woopie), Track & Field (rebuilding after years of ineptitude), Golf (open spring season with a 10th place finish behind teams like UNO, SLU, UTSA and W. Florida), Soccer (5-11-2), Volleyball (7-16), and now Baseball (picked 5th in SBC).

2009 has got to be better than 2008 because it couldn't get much worse. Let's hope baseball can do better than projected and softball can do as it always does, continue to win and lead all UL sports in that category. Hopefully, that and a much needed RCAF will propel us into a great football season and new basketball coaches will turn those programs around. It is pretty sad that UL athletics has been allowed to sink so low. That softball has managed to be so successful amongst all of this is truly amazing. And, don't give me the glass half empty theory. It is what it is. This so called sleeping giant is truly in a coma and had better be revived shortly. _

I guarantee we won't get swept by Nebraska this weekend. We don't play them until next weekend. Nebraska may have struggles of their own this early in the year as the weather has probably affected their practice schedule. The fifth place selection is about as expected due to the pitching we lost. Note there are 11 teams in the league. As no one knows how we will do, being picked in the middle is appropriate. I don't think this is indicative of the program slipping from an overall viewpoint. It is just the natural ebb and flow of a program with an upcoming rebuilding year. Softball wise, Ole Miss is not a lowly opponent. They have an outstanding pitcher of their own and they were a 0.500 team in the SEC last year, a conference good in every sport. As bad as basketball is, it is not the worst in the league as we would be a 7th or 8th seed of 13 were the season to end today. Now the way things are going, we may end up being closer to the bottom when it is over. I won't argue that women's basketball may be close to the bottom nationwide at this stage. A successful RCAF kickoff won't propel us to a good football season as that will be too soon for impact. It may propel us to a good season in two to three years. What will propel us to a good season would be for the returning guys to take up the example of last year's seniors regarding hard work. Sorry to be so picky, I just had to bring in facts and logic to a view based on emotion.

I don't know in his other thread, he made it sound like he had only one gun, but lots of ammo!

Why do I have the feeling I'm setting Z up for a joke here?
