Well then I was lied to...He's making $200k at Kentucky as of March 2008......

The Lexington Herald Leader today (March 27, 2008) put out the database to find out what UK employees make from the University. IF you know people who work at UK, you can spend endless hours looking up their salaries. Here are a few from the sports world:

Rich Brooks: 250,000
Billy Gillispie: 400,000
Mitch Barnhart: 475,000
Glenn Cyprien: 200,000
Tracy Webster: 180,000
Jeremy Cox: 160,000
Bill Keightley: 53,765
Joker Phillips: 240,000
Randy Sanders: 153,263
Steve Brown: 231,245
Steve Ortmayer: 206,833

Couple of things….Cyprien paid more than Webster who is paid more than Cox….kind of surprising. Then the football guys making a little more bank than I would have thought. And Bill is getting his dollar bills as well. Have fun with the generator….and if you have any other good salaries, post them in the comment section….

_ I don't like dismissing Butch because of the old admin regime. I think his coaching skills need to be evaluted and let the chips fall where they may. I don't think his being turned down by LSU has any place in our decision... but why didn't we go after him before? Regardless, before we go on a search, we need to have a success plan in mind (I have no doubt the AD thinks he does)... but there is a lot of room for criticism of UL's past coaching searches and hires.

I hate to talk about the past... and really hate "ifs and buts"... BUT... IF we had already established the right funding foundation, the admin could put the private people on the hook for money, while the private people put the admin on the hook for better decisions. Right now... I feel like we are operating with the same system we used to have. And that was not very impressive. (we wouldn't be talking about looking for a candidate that is willing to come to UL for the same salary as Robert Lee) _

I actually agree. Again, I don't understand the reasoning about the establishment of the private funding sector. We've had this in place for a long time. I've made donations through the link on the school website. You can make gifts to certain teams and see what projects are in place. It is not hard and I often think that it is an overused excuse by many fans. This is part of why I disagreed with you recently on your assessment of Jay Walkers comments and why he partially feels that fans are somewhat to blame. I too, await the announcement of the RCAF but I am also curious as to really how it will be different from what is in place now....

Obviously you've blown off what I've written prior If private funding is only about having a bank account... we have that and so did many other failed institutions. The right funding foundation is built to include every current donor and every potential donor identified by a marketing consultant. It is extensive, demands measurable objectives and is very transparent to the members. It has a hugely attractive self-marketing capability (people absolutely know that it is not "business as usual" and are eager to participate to both make something great, but also be a permanent part of it). The core membership is chartered to bring in greater membership (by prescription) which includes business and individual targets. If you expect the bank account to be substantial, the foundation's charter has to be substantial. What we have now... is NOT.

I'm somewhat excited about the fact RCAF has so many necessary dotted Is and crossed Ts. That either means it is the extensive system it needs to be... or our administration is a room full of idiots. I know what I plan to do in either case.

Say the average ticket price is $10. Next season's attendance will certainly decrease by 1000 fans or so with Lee back. So let's guesstimate :

$10 x 1000 x 12 home games = $120,000 lost (maybe more, maybe less)

If it takes 175000 to buy out Lee, then you're only down $55000.

Now if you hire an up and coming, energetic coach and create fan excitement again, you will actually make a lot more than you will lose!!!
As the saying goes, you have to spend money to make money !!!!

Savoie,Walker, & Farmer - the ball is in your court (PUN intended) because it surely isn't in Lee's. _
