    Bot 5

Bridges grounds out to the pitcher.
Verde doubles into the gap. (Cormier runs for her)
Runyan batting, Cormier steals 3rd. But she grounds out. Runner stays at 3rd.
    Bowers pops up.

With the exception of Verde, this line up has no power.

    Ole Miss 4 Cajuns 2

    End 5.

Leaving work someone else can take over for me.

Some FACTS (yes, I said facts!) from the game today.

    1) The Cajuns did not do well against junk ball pitchers last year and today we picked up right where we left off last year. We were off balance all day, and that caused the girls to not swing hard. Gabby is a very good hitter and she is having a season starting slump. She will pull out of this, but Mike needs to put her in the 7,8 or 9 hole for a while to take the pressure off her.

    2) The umpires last night were bad, today they were horrible.

Don Halpin is a good guy, and will do his best to call a fair game at Lamson Park or at a middle school game. The problem is that he is more suited to call a middle school game than a LAdy Cajun game.

Rusty Palumbo made a horrible call at first base last night, and I have always felt that he calls AGAINST the Cajuns when there is a close call. He is a big time wannabe and loves to be theatrical with his calls, and loves to call illegal pitches.

Jimmy Bonvillain does not deserve to be in Lamson Park as a spectator, much less as an umpire. He is one of the worst umpires in this area when calling high school games, and the game last night was so far above his head that he just could not keep up.

    3) We were not going to win the game today with an umpire that wanted the ball down the center 4 inches and belt high. Our pitchers cut corners and have the ability to go from the top to the bottom of the strike zone. Umpires like we get at home do not have the ability to call good pitchers.

    4) Every pitcher throws an illegal pitch at least 1/10th of the time. The problem today was that Rule 10.4.3 states that it is not a step when the pitcher turns to push off the plate, and but rule 10.4.4 states that the rear pivot foot must stay in contact with the ground so no second push us created. The pitcher may not become airborne, and the rear foot must slide/drag on the ground.

Pitchers leave the ground all the time. Cat Osterman and * Finch made a career out of breaking rules 10.4.4 and 10.4.4.1. The thing that the umpires missed is that the pitchers are gaining no great advantage through the motion of the pitch as we observed today. Calling an illegal pitch on several pitches in one game is like calling holding on every play in football. Yes, technically the pitch may be illegal, but the spirit of the rule is to keep someone from gaining great advantage. The umpires today knew the rule, but did not understand the spirit of the rule.

    5) The Cajuns played poorly today, but we have no idea if the umpires cost us the game. We would have to go back to the start of the game and replay it with people who are competent in their duties. That won't happen, but as long as we have poor umpires at Lamson Park you can count on the same type of result in future games.

I don't know about the other two umpires, but I can say that Rusty Paluma doesn't have any business umpiring college games...This dude personally cost my team a baseball championship a few years back...He called foul ball and my batter stop running and then all of a sudden he said I mean fair ball and we lost, dude is a joke...

Sorry about your high school team -- that stinks.

I always thought his last name was Palumbo. I've known the guy for years. I stand corrected. Thanks.
