  1. Support Savoie Outlines Strategy for Largest School in the UL System

UL — University of Louisiana president Joseph Savoie outlined budget reductions Friday that at their deepest could shut two of the university’s academic colleges.

The action is at the end of a list of hypothetical strategies that reduce UL’s $152 million budget by 15 percent, or $14.1 million, and 28 percent, or $25.5 million, per the state’s request to help offset a potential state shortfall of $2 billion next fiscal year.

Overall, higher education was told to prepare for cuts between $212 million to $382 million.

FYI, the state had a 24 Billion dollar surplus after Katrina. It sure would have been smart to save a couple billion so state universities wouldn't have to shut down entire colleges when times got tough. Not to mention the hospitals that will likely shut down. Is it too much to ask that our lawmakers be more responsible with our money than a 5 year old?
