Dr. Savoie has issued a letter on the budget cuts, text available at...

PS... click the link to the Lombardi video under UL District News, where he notes that Louisiana "should have two or three flagship universities."

Bet the LSU partisans yank him up short on that one.

What if a UL tax was put forward by the Parish with the monies going mainly for athletics----think that this would really mean economic developement---better facilities, better conference, better players, more wins equal more fans=more hotel and rest income=more hires=more money circulating = better parish with more income from more people living here!!!! Could we get someone to make a motion to pass this?????

    Hey Boomer,
Tax cuts! You need to send the check like Luke Mandola and 100 other people for the Football Supplements program, First! You can't live on the T V donation forever especially, when that was two years ago! Pretty soon we will be able to "dollar cost average" your donation and you will be down to $10 per year! Send the check! YOU are the man!

All I can say is wow! That's quite possibly the stupidest statement I have ever heard from someone that holds a phD? If there was supposed to be 2 or 3 flagship institutions, the concept would be called "Flagships Agenda." The entire concept that Emmert took from UConn and pursued at LSU was founded on the concept that stratification of public institutions is necessary, if a state wants a nationally recognized institution. As opposed to just a bunch of random and unselective institutions that teach kids. This is also a concept that is readily accepted everywhere, and supported by the reality that every state has 1 flagship.

The fact this state happily funds so many additional schools that can't possibly be justified, almost makes it poetic that a mindset exists that stratification of institutions is somehow un-Louisianan.

If one university is not leading, maybe it's time for another to step up.

2-3 Flagship universities in a state with 4.4 million people and poor funding? Yeah, that sounds like a great idea. Why stop there? You might as well extend it to 4-5 flagship schools.

I wouldn't have a conniption over that generic statement, it was couched in a perfect world framework.

Back when he was Louisiana's higher education commissioner Dr. Savoie was not in agreement with multiple flagships. Link

Personally I think each system in the State should have a flagship and the States top school should use another phrase.

North Carolina also has double the population of Louisiana and I'm going to assume significantly more funding for education. Louisiana has far too many four year universities for a state with under 4.5 million people.
