Thread: Bustle's System

  1. Default Bustle's System

A school can only have something like 85 scholarship players on a squad.

If the redshirt system is in force it means most players are in the system 5 years.

With 5 years to hand out 85 scholarships you aveage 17 available cholarships a year. You only average more if you have atrition.

All the schools who are giving out 25 scholarships year in and year out are either heavy into JuCo, have no redshirt system, or are losing players left and right.

UL's signing 18 tells me Bustle's system is a lean clean rec-roux-ting machine

Good point Turbine. I think this may be the "x-factor" that's helping our on-the-field success. Recruits that may not be an "A" on the measurables, but who all buy into the program and work hard.

Well I guess we can pat ourselves on the back and say look how honest we are... Because the truth is that the big time winning programs over sign year in and year out.... a&m@br signed 8 more than their scholarship limit... bama 110 or 11... Heck Ole Miss signed 32 kids this year.... they then weed out through attrition..

Perhaps we need to start being a little more aggressive??? Gawd forbid we do that

We will only have about 18 scholarships to offer next year as well. That indicates guys are progressing academically.

Please, someone explain to me the term signed, as in Troy signed 41 recruits. To me that indicates 41recruits were offered scholarships, and that they in turn accepted the terms of the written scholarship by signing. If NCAA rules allow a school to offer a maximum of 25 scholarships per year, how can a school sign 41 recruits?

So, is the term signed being used correctly? Or is it being used falsely to highlight a school's supposedly outstanding ability to attract athletes?

They can "sign" whatever number they want then but they can only issue the max of 25 new scholies and 85 total. Some of their signees may have counted against last years total, maybe some are are ineligble and some may gray shirt and count against next year's total. Maybe some will "be placed" in juccos. On the surface 41 is a huge number though.

Destin, I am not trying to be argumentative. I am still at a loss for what "signing" means.

In the examples you provided, does it mean that an athlete actually puts his name on a document that specifies he is beholden to the school, or is it just a verbal commitment? I can understand the signing part if a scholarship is given, but what does a gray-shirt, a preferred walk-on(whatever the hell that means), or a jucco sign? To me signing indicates an obligation on both parties, the school, and the athlete. I am not aware of a requirement that walk-ons, gray-shirts, or juccos must sign anything (other than a thank you card/note ). If so, isn't that illegal in the eyes of the NCAA?

Again, I am not trying to be argumentative. I just cannot comprehend its meaning as it is being used in some of the posted messages.

My opinion is "signing" means they sign an NCAA National Letter of Intent or "NLI" or "LOI" (scholarship papers) that they can send in beginning on annual Signing Day. It's what the coaches keep referring to as what they wait to receive via the fax machine.

However, signing the NLI and sending it in doesn't mean they evenutally get on scholarship because they still have be academically qualified and enroll as a full time student.

Here's a link to some info. on NLIs I found.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I'm glad that the coaching staff holds a big emphasis on academics and puts out a nice product, hopefully they can make it great.
