His lack of stars on recruiting sites does not bother me. He put up great numbers against top competition and his film looks great, and that's all in concerned about.
His lack of stars goes back to the Toby Gerhart comparison. Gerhart was a 3-star "fullback" prospect coming out of high school. I've talked to Weimerskirch about the white tailback stigma and he has told me all along that he doesn't plan on being a fullback or H-back or whatever fancy title they come up with to not have to call him a tailback.
Like I said, you won't find a bigger fan of him than me, so I'm biased. But I do know that in a district with teams like Pensacola High, Escambia High, Washington, Milton and Pine Forest, he ran over, through and around those players that were all can't miss, 3-star/4-star Division I prospects. I even had at least two of the coaches on his schedule say "Ain't no way we're going to let that white boy run for 200 yards against us." Well, 300+, 400+ yards later, they were saying "That's a bad _____ white boy."
I think I know pretty good football players when I see them, and he's a gamer. And he's a humble kid that just likes to work hard. He comes from a good program, so you know he's not going to slack off. I like the commitment. There's a reason he was our unanimous Offensive Player of the Year last year. His numbers didn't lie.
I see a shampoo comercial contract coming for the young man, like Troy (Palmetto)sp of the Pittsburg Steelers! Will have to get some insurance on that curly doo!
You are probably right and I trust your judgement. However, until he comes in and proves it on the field at this level, I'll temper my expectations and enthusiasm and just be excited we seem to have gotten a good all around fit for our program.
I'll happily change my expectations and raise the roof of my excitement once he's run over Tovell...![]()
Yobes Walker never ran a 4,5 forty at 205 pounds. I watched him run it at UL's camp. You can also watch him in 7-on-7 video and he can motion out the backfield to the slot and create space against LB's and Safeties. Yobes was not cable of that when he ran 4.7. He fits our offense and any time you can beat USF, Army and CUSA schools for a signee, your program is recruiting the type of athletes you need to compete for championships.
You got to love that hair do!
And with that hair-do he kinda resembles the lead singer of Coheed and Cambria!
