Yep, that's the good part. These guys have played together or against each other since they were 7, 8 years old for the most part. All the way from house leagues to travel teams to high school and now at UL.

Totally agree. It helps so much with the team chemistry.
Wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of UL players in the All-Star game
How come we can have so much success in club sports like water skiing, fishing team, roller hockey, and even rugby? - Yet, with the exception of baseball and softball, we cannot consistently have success at the NCAA level?
It seems as though once we throw money behind a program it tumbles. Does the NCAA offer roller hockey as a sport? If so I'd like to see the school add it. I know we'd have to add another women's sport though. But I wouldn't mind checking out women's gymnastics.
I know ice hockey is a NCAA D1 sport - but i don't think it would be financially feasible to add it even if we did have a great amount of success (i know we have the club ice hockey team, i'm talking D1 here). I'm not sure what the most southern D1 hockey schools are, but I don't think they are within driving distance. Still, with the icegators gone, it sure would be nice to be back in the dome watching a hockey game again, this time with Ragin' Cajuns on the front of the jersey.
January of 2045 will be sweet for Cajun Fans.
I had the honor of watching the majority of these kids grow up around the rink. I also refereed alot of high school hockey a few years ago. If you like hockey, these guys are amazing to watch. They have just as much talent as any northern ice hockey team. Since they have been playing together for so long, they just know where the other is going to be.
The Hebert boys could play the entire game with a blind fold on and each would still have 5 assist each.
Is this an NCAA sport or is it a club sport? Are the coaches paid and recognized by the university? I'd love to see this happen as a real deal. I don't mind being great at minor sports, in fact I think it is a fantastic way for us to get on the sports map!
Its a good point you bring up, but it would not be feasible to have a NCAA D1 Ice Hockey team. There is little chance that it would be successful. The level of competition is a huge difference. Pretty much all southern ice hockey schools are ACHA with the exception of Alabama-Huntsville. The next closest team is probably Ohio State or Notre Dame, including D1, 2, and 3.
This is a club sport. The national association is the NCRHA. There is no NCAA version, so we play the best of the best. Typically smaller teams do succeed. Lindenwood University and Univ of Missouri St. Louis are usually the 2 best teams in the nation. Coaches are not paid. Team does get some sponsorship from the university (as do all club sports.)
