Thread: Carencro's Ricky Johnson to visit UL

  1. UL Football Carencro's Ricky Johnson to visit UL

With the bulk of its football commitments already secured, UL will spend this weekend trying to finalize its 2009 signing class before National Signing Day on Wednesday.

One of those late additions might include Carencro High wide receiver Ricky Johnson, who withdrew his four-month long commitment from Arkansas on Thursday.

Johnson was set to make an official visit to Tennessee this weekend, but he canceled it when the Vols called Thursday and said they were not taking any more receivers this year. He has narrowed his choices to Mississippi State and Tulsa but is expected to visit UL this weekend before making his final commitment on Saturday.

What happened to the cornerback from Florida? Why did we part ways?

Seems like this kid (Johnson) doesn't know what he wants. Maybe he will mess around like Yobes Walker and fall to us. Seems like with his size, he'd be better off coming make his mark for 4 years at UL then struggling to start in the SEC maybe as an uperclassman. I'd show him lots of footage of all the ways we got Chery the ball.......

He sounds like a very nice player. Do the Cajuns have a legitimate shot? Carencro has produced some very good players over the years.

It seems from his comments that we have no shot.

It's between Tulsa and Miss St.

We need far more post like this one! I for one wants to see Ricky Johnson at UL. This would do wonders for the program recruiting, fan support and for Ricky.

Ricky would more than likely get more playing time at UL and be able to develop more to help him and others at UL get to the next level.

UL is at a time in its history where it is experiencing unpresidented growth throughout its athletic program. Look at the prior 30 years, and watch the past 4 and the next 4 and put those 8 up against one another and you will see a direction to be very proud of my Cajun friends.

Ricky, I hope you go where you feel most at home, you feel has the best programs for you both on and off the field and in the classroom!

"If I'd like to be close to home, I'll go there. If I go somewhere else and it doesn't work out, it might be a place I could go if I come back home."

I always want UL to get the best possible players possible. However, I am not real excited about any player that uses UL as a possible fall back school "if things don't work out" with his original choice! I wish these kids, especially the local kids capable of playing D-1A football, would realize that attending UL in NOT A BAD THING!!!! But like many of us when we were young, and somewhat less wise, they will learn that "The Grass Is Not Greener On The Other Side Of The Fence" most of the time!!!

Best of luck to Ricky Johnson. I hope he makes the right choice the 1st time!!!!!!!!!!!

I coached him a season in AAU, that is his favorite sport, and his pretty damn good at it...
I believe opportunity to play basketball is part of our recruiting pitch to Johnson. I saw him play against STM in one of the CajunDome games a couple of weeks ago. He was by far the best athlete on the floor. I think he could help us in roundball. Brad, do you agree?

I could be wrong, but this is not the feeling that I get. I would not classify the recent results in baseball, football, or basketball...."unpresidented growth"....like I said, maybe I am wrong

I think the comment was made in terms of facility improvements, not recent on field results. Of course these should in time result in improved results.
