Thread: Watch South Alabama's coach go nuts

Default Ronnie Arrow the Refs and The Monitor No Show

I didn't see but did the refs look at it before they left the floor? It wouldn't have been a long review but I didn't even see them look at it.

Also any fans sitting behind the scores table able to hear what the USA coach was screaming? Guy looked like he was going to have a stroke. I know it's a tough way to lose but jeez man, the looked like a cry baby all game. I can't recall ever seeing a coach in recent history acting like that.

What an absolute joke of a coach, mentor and man. I feel sorry for the players on his team. There are other ways to voice your disapproval. What an embarrassment to South Alabama.

Couple of things, and mind you I was not at the game.

    1. Ronnie Arrow is one of the best coaches in the Belt, if not the best. Cry baby, is harsh. As someone who coaches small kids in basketball I could understand his fustration if he truely believed it was a missed call. I would expect any coach to react to losing on a last second shot, especially if he felt it was a wrong call.'

    2. As far as the video review goes, according to the advertiser this morning. "Unsure whether Daigle had gotten the 35-footer off in time, South Alabama coach Ronnie Arrow demanded the officials review the play. NCAA rules, though, state that a play can only be reviewed if there is a monitor located on a designated courtside table."

I was sitting behind the USA bench last night and both Ronnie Arrow and Chris Coker were torqued off about the officiating the entire game. There was a couple of plays where they really should have been called for the technical foul given the clipboard tossing and chair kicking that they did towards the end of the game. So they were primed for that explosion. I suspect that Adeife jumping up onto the USA bench and mouthing off at their players after the horn sounded didn't do a lot to sweeten their coaching staff's dispositions at the end of the game.

I was surprised that we didn't have a monitor at the scoring table. I thought that was required for the refs to be able to review plays. Anybody know what the NCAA and Sun Belt rules are about providing a video monitor for the refs to use to review plays?

Anyway, it was clear from the display on the scoreboard monitors and the stuff that people have posted on YouTube this morning that Daigle put the shot up before the horn sounded. So, the USA people had to suffer a nice and unpleasant little bus ride back to Mobile this morning. :-)

Now let's see how we do against MTSU...

I'm pretty sure we have monitors on the courtside table because they have been used in a previous game this season.

I thought I heard Jay Walker say that there were NO COURTSIDE MONITORS.

If it had been on the USA court and they had made a last minute shot, and Robert Lee had stayed asking them to come look at it to make sure, we would have been patting him on the back for sticking up for his players. The opposing coach does it in our house and we call him a cry baby.

I wrote last night that eventually there should have been an action taken against him by the officials, but our fans calling him a cry baby is classless on our side. I appluade him for staying until it became obvious he was not going to get his replay.

I spoke to someone last night that works at the table. They said the only time that we have monitors on the side line is when it's a televised game. Otherwise there are no monitors. As far as the South Alabama coach, he acted like a two year old not getting it's way. I would be surprised if the Sun Belt doesn't repermand him. He was yelling at anyone who would be in front of him and then was banging on the scorers table. I would call that a cry baby.

If I were the coach, I would have been demanding a video review as well... it qualified for a review, that's for certain. If that doesn't occur prior to closing the books on this game, the outcome is final. However... he went over the top. He was so wound up prior to that happening, he had no chance of reeling himself in. He will get reprimanded.

I'm glad looking at in retrospect that it actually left Daigle's fingertips prior to the red light. The only other argument the coach may have had is whether the clock started on time on the inbounds pass. He would have lost that argument as well.

I was also sitting right behind the USA bench, and when I saw Adeife coming our way it looked to me like he was shouting at the student section in celebration. I don't think that he was mouthing off to anyone.

Still not the smartest move after a finish like that, but it's hard to fault him for being excited. Luckily a UP had the sense to get him down before anyone retaliated.

I've been coaching several different sports for over 15 years now. I get wound up at times during some important games, but never, ever acted like South Al's coach did last night. He should be ashamed of himself and he IS a cry baby.
I still think he should have been tasered...........(Don't tase me Bro...)

Guy was just fighting for his team. I respect him for it. Refs did not look at the replay as their was no courtside monitor and they are not obligated to look at it in such a situation. Replay which was brought up eventually was from RaginCajuns.com. He was still angry after seeing it as he wondered how Randell took all those dribbles and got it off in 2.4 secons.
