Thread: Interesting Recruiting Cases

    Default Interesting Recruiting Cases

    Rice is an interesting study in recruiting.

    In 2008 Rice went 10-3 with abowl win but go back look at their recruiting rankings. Obviously, they found talent capable of competing in CUSA but just who did they beat out for this apparantly undervalued "talent"? Does it matter?

    Ratings
    2005 - Rice: 94th;
    2006 - Rice: 82nd;
    2007 - Rice: 100th;
    2008 - Rice: 113th;

    Meanwhile, the Tulamesters are going bonkers in NO over Toledo's list of verbal commits. This is coming off their 2-10 season and no winning seasons since 2002.

    There may still be a couple of surprises, but this may be the best class that ULM has ever signed. Here is based on current verbal commits.

    Why do I have so much of the deja vu....

    Recruiting is only one piece of the puzzle. If I was the coach of USC they would probably only win 5 or 6 games a year.

    Rice has been blessed with a string of good coaching hires. They also have money for assistants and the like. Tulane is an enigma. They have some good parts, but you get the feeling here in NOLA that the school is not giving its all for athletics. Not having a stadium is also a killer for them.

    Looking at us, we have done things wrong for so long it looks like we do not know where to start. It like going in to clean a room that has been trashed by a dozen kids...it is overwhelming! Is UL putting the proper emphisis on recruiting right now? I have no idea, but I do know I do not envy the job Walker and Farmer have before them. Lets hope we hear on Feb 4 that they have figured out how to "clean the room". Once this is done our stature amongst coaches and recruits will improve.

    You are 100% correct. Recruiting is only half the battle. You have to be able to COACH the players that you recruit.

    so true. that pitiful lsu defense this year was populated with 4 and 5 star recruits. still, if you don't even know what scheme you're in or where to line up when the ball is snapped, the only stars involved are the ones you'll be seeing after your bell is rung.

    I don't know if I would call LSU's defense pitiful, but I understand and agree with your assessment.

    One of the things that we as fans can only speculate about is whether it is the coach who "can't coach", or the player who can't be coached. The reason I say only speculate is because we are not at practice every day to see what is and what isn't being taught. With regards to UL, I am leaning more towards the coach that can't coach camp. Although, I did see some improvement this year over the last couple. Only time will tell.

    Just wondering what you WOULD call it???

    21 to Auburn who couldnt score on STM
    24 to Ms State who played that offensively tingly 3-2 game with Auburn
    31 to SBC Troy

    And I have not touched on the 50's when they actually played good teams....

    Just a thought???

    Dude, ease up. I am not an LSU fan at all. In fact, I hate them, but I would take their defensive athletes over ours. Wouldn't you?

    Well of course.....But given that argument I'd rather have USC's defensive athletes over ours....

    I trust you when you say you hate them (EVERYONE knows I do..lol) but your response seems very lsua&m@br ish.. Whenever I nail them they always come back with a comparison to UL.... like "Welll uh uh uh... how many bowls younses been to?? Huh Huh... well dere"...
