UL — The state’s vacant poet laureate position will soon be filled by the man initially selected for the post in 2007.
Gov. Bobby Jindal will appoint Lafayette poet Darrell Bourque to the position this summer, a year after Bourque’s name was excluded from the list of gubernatorial appointments for Senate confirmation.
Though appointed in November 2007 by former Gov. Kathleen Blanco, the exclusion was unintended and one Jindal has worked to correct, said Michael Sartisky, executive director of the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities. The nonprofit oversees the nominations for the position.
“Gov. Jindal’s done everything in his power to set this right and he has,” Sartisky said Monday.
