Question about the Swamp Cats

At the Cajundome on Saturday it dawned on me that there is a Swamp Cats banner still hanging in the Dome. Where in the world are my IceGators banners? I liked the SwampCats but getting to do the chomp and hear TD Smith warn of the "FLLLLYYYYYYIIIIINNNNGGGG BBBBLLLLAAACCCCCKKKK BIIIIISSSCCCUUUUIIITTT" were some of the true highlights of my childhood. It is a crying shame that there are no IceGators banners. If there are still IceGator banners around, I want one hangng from the wall in my living room.

At least they could do us the honor of having one last "BEST SEAT IN THE HOUSE!" promotion.

The cajundome doesnt do enough to promote what sporting accomplishments happened in that building. Aside from the icegator banners being gone, the swampcats never got their second banner for the second league championship that they won. I'm proud that the gators, swampcats, and cajuns have all done some great things in that building.

Agreed....I wish UL would somehow buy or gain full control of the Cajundome and Cajundome operations. I think it would be easy to do a better job than what is currently being done.

I Hate that Banner. For some reason it bothers me. My old lady asked me about that banner during the UALR game. I explained to her the history of the Swamp Cats. She then looked at me with a confused look and asked "If the Swamp Cats do not play here, then why do they still have a banner up?" Ironically, I have been asking the same question for years from the student section, but nobody can give me a good answer.

Too bad there aren't more Cajun's banners up there.

They wanted the banners and the team out of the Cajun Dome. The Icegator banners were purchase by a local businessman alone with the rights to the IceGators name. He did not want the rights to the team and name leaving the Lafayette area. At one point he was trying to build an arena holding about 4500-5000 fans. He was looking at property off I-10 in Breaux Bridge. Could not get enough backers. So I guess it fell through.....
