All coachspeak and fanspeak aside, the most important game is our first.

Because if we lose to Southern, Bustle should be fired on the spot.

And I think Bustle understands that.

Dude not only lost to McNeese, he got his tail kicked by the Cowpokes, and he went on to have a terrible year as well.

Was he fired?

Look, as far as he knows, all he has to do is win a few here or there and let the excuse machine do it's job, and he's set for life.

There are definitely some on here that would say we cannot overlook that "Open Date" and will very likely take an "L" that weekend.

You're right.

He probably should have been fired. But he wasn't.

And then he gave us a taste in 2008. And if that taste isn't turned into a meal in 2009, I bet you he gets canned.

If he loses to Southern, whatever outcry there was after the McNeese game will be quadrupled. And he will probably be gone.

_ I think we need to take the attitude that every single one of them is important. One thing that always frustrated me with Coach was his constant preaching (usually after doing poorly in non-conference) that conference started the "real" season. While I understand the truth that you could lose all your OOC games and still get to the New Orleans Bowl by winning the Belt (as North Denton did) it seems to leave the perception that the OOC games are "throw aways" or not that important. It made me wonder if that mindset didn't creep into the player's attitudes towards the games just a bit. _

There are definitely things the team works on to be as fully prepared to win the conference as possible. In other words, schemes and such that are part of the base package are geared mostly against conference "level of play". I think the approach to all other games (BCS or D1AA) pretty much is a "prepare the week of"... but with very little adjustment. I totally agree with this thinking... but without question the coaching staff has to get the team up each week with the mindset to execute full throttle to win the game. I would hate to think otherwise.

I definitely believe Bustle (and/or staff) had the team up for Kent State at home and KSU and Illinois on the road last year. UTEP was a flop primarily due to defensive injuries and MD being hobbled. I just do not believe that the Cajuns were not in total win mode in every game. Troy and FAU were simply too much for a hobbled Cajun squad.

I seriously think people are missing on how much some staff changes made a difference last year. Injuries screwed the snot out of us.

True, this most recent season was a welcome respit from the usual OOC performances that we have seen in the past.

PS If my finger had been on the button after that whuppin' the cowpies laid on us, I'd a pushed it. After 2008 I am not anywhere near as sure. However, it really is "put up or shut up" time.
