BATON ROUGE - College and university officials are bracing for gouging as much as 30 percent out of their state funding for the next fiscal year that starts July 1.


The Board of Regents' Finance Committee got the bad news Wednesday that because of anticipated reduction of state revenues, higher education is looking at cuts of 18 percent to 30 percent.

"It's difficult for us to even speculate" on the effect of such a reduction of services, says Donnie Vandal, deputy commission of higher education who handles finances for the board.
