Microsoft recently_revealed their plans_to reduce the size of their overall workforce by up to 18,000 jobs by next year. In this, Nokia Devices and Services related professional and factory workers are expected to account for about 12,500 jobs. Microsoft will offer severance to all employees impacted by these changes, as well as job transition help in many locations. In addition to that, Microsoft is making some changes on policies related to US-based external staff (including Agency Temporaries, Vendors and Business Guests). As per the new policy, Microsoft’s external staff can only get access to Microsoft buildings and the Microsoft corporate network for a period of 18 months. After that, a 6 months break is required to get access again. Microsoft believes that this new policy will better protect their IP and confidential information.
