How many hours can a non-qualified student athelete take over the summer? I have a total of 16 credits towards my degree but I need 24 Credits. Can I take 8 hours over the summer to become elgible to play football in the fall of 2003?

I have no idea.
I did find this on a Virginia Tech web site, (it may or may not apply) however without looking at it long and hard I can't distinguish which is NCAA and which is VT policy. Below mostly has to do with transfers.
"Student-athletes transferring to the university from another institution must meet a specific set of NCAA rules. The NCAA has final approval for exceptions to or the waiving of such rules.Continuing Eligibility
- full-time status: be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours that count toward a specific baccalaureate or graduate degree program each regular term of the academic year.
- 24 hour rule: successfully complete (pass) 24 hours of courses that count toward toward a specific baccalaureate or graduate degree program each academic year.
- 75% rule: earn at least 75 percent (18 hours) of 24 hours of courses that count toward toward a specific baccalaureate or graduate degree program during the fall and spring terms (summer hours not included).
- Designation of degree: designate a specific program of study (major) leading toward a specific baccalaureate degree or graduate degree by the beginning of the third year of
enrollment (fifth semester).
- 25% rule: successfully complete 25% of course requirements before entering his/her third year of collegiate enrollment (for example: 30 hours of 120 hour program).
- 50% rule: successfully complete 50% of course requirements before entering his/her fourth year of collegiate enrollment (for example: 60 hours of 120 hour program).
- 75% rule: successfully complete 75% of course requirements before entering his/her fifth year of collegiate enrollment (for example: 90 hours of 120 hour program).
- 90% rule: upon entering his/her third year of collegiate enrollment shall present a cumulative minimum GPA that equals at least 90 percent (1.8000) of the institution's required GPA.
- 95% rule: upon entering his/her fourth year of collegiate enrollment shall present a cumulative minimum GPA that equals at least 95 percent (1.9000) of the institution's required GPA.
When I was in school you had to take a minimum of six hours in the summer to be full time summer student and could take 9 without any input from your advisor.Originally posted by gangasta

I don't think so. I think the max the NCAA allows is six. However, Mr. Cottonham would be a much better person to ask.Originally posted by gangasta
