Default Re: UL's Chery to play in Texas vs. The Nation All-Star game

Nobody worked on the Cajun roster harder to improve from 2007 to 2008 than Jason Chery.

I don't know how many stars he had when he signed with the Cajuns but he had a sky full this season.

  3. UL Football Chery 10th Bustle Player to Play in All-Star Game

Former Louisiana wide receiver/kick returner Jason Chery will participate in the third Annual Texas vs. the Nation all-star bowl this Saturday, Jan. 31 at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas.

Former Cajuns running back Tyrell Fenroy was named to the team as an alternate/injury replacement, but it appears that he will not be added the active roster.

Florida Atlantic head coach Howard Schnellenberger will coach the Nation team which Chery is listed as the primary kick returner. He is also expected to see time at wide receiver and on special teams.

Chery becomes the tenth Cajuns player to be invited to a post-season bowl game under head coach Rickey Bustle. Seven of the previous nine players to be invited to bowl games have either been drafted or signed NFL free agent contracts.

“This is a great opportunity for Jason,” said Bustle. “Our program has established a history of sending seniors to all-star bowls and to the NFL.”

Chery earned praise on the All-Sun Belt team at wide receiver after finishing second in the SBC in receiving touchdowns, fifth in receiving yards and seventh in receptions. He ranked third in the conference in yards per reception among players with at least 40 catches.

His play on special teams also earned Chery recognition on the second team as an all-purpose selection. He was second in the conference in all-purpose yards and led the SBC in kickoff return yards. Chery was fourth in the SBC in total touchdowns and ranked first among non-running backs, while ranking 14th in the conference in rushing yards. He made 14 tackles (13 solo) on specials teams kickoff and punt coverage.
