UL — The University of Louisiana’s arts building, Fletcher Hall, is the victim of its own design.
Water intrusion is breaking away chunks of the building’s rock-plastered exterior and damaging wood that lines courtyard railings and ceilings.
Pans and PVC drain pipes have been rigged to catch and funnel water that seeps into rooms below terraces. In one stairwell, water has worn away plaster to reveal the rusted seams of metal sheeting within the wall.
In all, the building’s imperfections create a poor reflection of the talent nurtured within and present potential hazards.
