As an RN I took care of Paul when he broke his leg about 6 or so month's ago. I didn't know it was him but when I walked into his room and he said something like "mais can you halp me get dat off da tabull." I immediately said "Paul"? and he was like... Mais how you know me... I said " your famous"!.. he laughed.. he was a very modest guy.. we reminisced about a few things... I'll remember Paul.. RIP...

I pass in front of Paul's store every day and heard his calls all these years... but I have no CLUE of what he looked like. I sure wish I had a face to go with the voice.

    okay... bye

Just a question, what store did he have? I'm from BB, but I'm a youngster and wasn't sure what store Paul ran.

I found 3 old posts about Paul on RaginPagin from HelmutVII, rhineaux, and Hammer58.

    All touching.

While we may moan and complain about the content of local sports talk radio, I think we are lucky we have as much as we do in a small market like Lafayette. Local shows are on from 7:00 A.M. to noon, from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. and sometime later. and then Saturday and Sunday morning. I don't think that any other market the size of Lafayette can make that claim.

    Hilarious

Paul called in to talk about it. He started telling this story which probably lasted about 3-4 minutes, about how when he was younger, maybe in his 20s, he met a girl that he asked on a date or something, and after he asked her, some wierd chain events happened where a black cat ran in front of him and he broke some glass, and he was forced to step under a ladder, and something else. Well, he goes on the date, and I can't remember if he was trying to say that superstitions were stupid because all of that happened, and he ended up marrying the girl, or if he was saying that he believed because he ended up forgetting his wallet and he had to wash dishes to pay for dinner. Nonetheless, after tying up the airwaves for several minutes with a detailed story of these occurances, Don said, "Paul, that's some story. You can't be telling me that all of that actually happened to you?" Paul said, in that soft-toned, slow, Breaux Bridge accent, "Well no, but I thought it was a pretty funny story though." I don't know if I've ever laughed at something so hard. It was hilarious.

Paul called in to KPEL this evening and confirmed that he has been in the hospital after taking a bad fall at his home. When he first called in he asked Jay "What's the matter no one calls you anymore?" While I thought immediately that it sounded like Paul, Jay was caught off guard and started to fire back that folks had been calling all day and then in mid-sentence realized who the caller was. Jay then let Paul talk for a good 5 or 10 minutes and it was classic Paul ruminations on all the movies he watched while in the hospital, numerous baseball players whose names he couldn't recall, his PT sessions and his good looking in home nurse.

All is well again in the KPEL world.

Since the day I heard it - and for the rest of my days - when we get around the holidays and somebody lists pumpkin pie on the menu, I think about when he called in before LSU played Notre Dame and Scott Prather asked him his favorite Thanksgiving desert.

    "Mais, pumpkin piieeeeee...."

The Ta Tai thing came about when the Hornets moved to New Orleans. They were trying to think of a name for them that was unique to Louisiana and they came up with Ta Tai. Somebody said that nobody outside of Louisiana would know what it was. The discussion then moved on to what exactly was a Ta Tai. Many callers came up with a definition but this is how Pauls call went down:

Jay (looking at the caller ID) "This guy will know what a Ta Tai is"

Jay answers the phone and it is Paul.

Jay asks "Paul what is a Ta Tai"

    Paul "It's common knowledge" (LOL)

Jay "It's common knowledge to someone 100 years old and from Breaux Bridge Louisiana"

Another favorite call went like this, Paul called Jay and all of a sudden Paul said "I gotta go" and he hung up.

About 30 minutes later Paul called back and resumed the conversation like he never left. As Paul was finished Jay asked " Paul, what did he buy?"

Paul was a little confused and Jay asked the same question with the same confused response from Paul. Jay then said "About 30 minutes ago you had to hang up, what did he buy?

Paul said "Oh, a fifth of Jack Daniels and ten dollars of gas"

    ROTFLMAO.

Ditto! As is Leeman, I too am an RN, and used to work at Lourdes. Never had the honor to serve Paul through caring for him. I now work in Pauls home town hospital in Breaux Bridge(man the cooking is good here). We have seen some of the 1420 staff here(great people).

I am one of those who was(is) always a Paul fan. When my wife or kids first heard Paul on the radio they always said with a huge smile on their face, "Who is that?"

My wife from that point on anytime Paul came on would tell the kids or even me to quite down and she would listen intently and laugh like a child again.

Paul from my family to yours, "Now that your in Heaven you'll never miss another ball game, 1420 call in show, or customer in the store, but to a radio friend I never met, you will be sorely missed!"
