John Rocco has sports throughout his family line. Born in Pittsburgh, he moved to Cincinnati after eighth grade where his stepfather, Ray Shore, was chief scout for the Cincinnati Reds baseball team. Shore also worked as a scout for the Philadelphia Phillies.
“We had people like Johnny Bench, Sparky Anderson and others just drop by the house. It was great for a young boy,” Rocco said.
He played baseball in high school and at the University of Louisville-Lafayette. “I'm a ‘Ragin Cajun' just like Jake Delhomme,” he said.
After graduation, Rocco worked for 11 years in the minor-league management offices of baseball teams such as the Oakland A's, Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds.
