UL Basketball Wannabee Coaches Step Forward

Denver comes in tomorrow with 2 juniors and the rest of the squad is made up of sophs and frosh. Not much experience but they run that patient, deliberate offense that waits and waits and waits for stuff like lay ups off the old "give and go" or the back door cut.

Denver will not put half the talent we have on the floor but you know from past experiences, their kind of offense tends to befuddle the Cajuns on defense.

So, here's the question - How do you defense Denver?

    Don't let 'em breathe.

    Full-court press.

    Run and gun.

    We play a half-court game-we lose.

U play man, backside guys have to be on help side, when they reverse it, backside guys have to come out quick but in control to stop getting blown by, simple fundamental defense for a simple fundamental offense, the reason ESA is usual always pretty good, they run this to near perfection, we would always have better athletes but they would beat us because they out thought us

Then we better force a lot of TOs and get all the rebounds at their end. No allowing them second and third shots.

We won a 57 to 51 game in the Dome last year. I don't disagree that we should force the issue. However Denver is so well coached they will break the press, run the clock down to 10 seconds and then try to score. Key is not getting frustrated when they do this.

Pump 100% humidity into the Cajun Dome!

There is one small problem with the constant pressure defense.....

it will be a Saturday night in the Belt and we all know that means we will get crappy refs who love to blow their whistles at the slightest contact.

But I do agree that this is the best approach to winning the game. That and scoring more points than DU.
