Thread: Sucky Black Uniforms

Our colors are vermillion and white, period.! Not black, not orange, but VERMILLION AND WHITE.

I don't mind a little faint black trim, but that is it.

What about our athletic gear deal? Adidas, Nike, Under Armor? We need something.

How about we just use a different dog, like maybe a Catahoula Hound or something, similar to University of Tennesee's "old smokey". Hell, we could even name him "Catahoula".

I always thought that would be cool. I figured that somehow a hound didn't garner the respect we keep "demanding"... so we went with the pepper... fear the pepper.

Maybe Frenchie or Cajun Charlie can help me out but I think we had a dog awhile back by the name of "Gumbeaux". Maybe dig him up and bring him back.

Just for the heck of it and because I love an underpepper, I'm going to appoint myself Citizen Dildeaux's public defender (trust me, it's strictly preaux boneaux work).

I'll rest my case here -

Dildeaux's not something I want on my ammo vest or my speedo but he's sure enough a cute and quiet guy that all the children at Cajun events seem to enjoy. He does no more harm to anyone than the Buckeye of Ohio St. or the Stanford tree. Besides, aren't there a couple of schools that have an okra and an artichoke running loose on their sidelines? Am I just imagining that?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if WKU can get away with a blood clot, pomegranite looking whatever for a mascot, we ought to feel blessed with a big red pepper. I say invite the "Energizer Bunny" in for few joint appearances with Dildeaux and really get the place rockin'.

First half was funny. Second half was embarrassing in how you gauge acceptance by measuring against the bottom of the barrel. Sure it can always be worse but why even come close to being sickeningly bad much less wallowing it. Finally please don’t judge a stuffed animals appeal by a child they will endorse a purple Barney if allowed to.

The whole thing was intended to be funny, Chance, so I guess I won't be getting "the call" from the Comedy Channel or SNL.

Bottomline right now is I could care less about what mascot or spirit figure or whatever animal, vegtable or mineral we have. It just isn't a big deal for me one way or the other but if he/she/it interests my 6 year old granddaughter and makes her smile then I like it for that reason. Seriously.

I agree with CE, just because it's not as bad as it could be (and I don't see how it could be any worse), doesn't mean it's ok.

And I think it is a big deal. It may not be a big deal in the grand scheme of things (here is where everyone can enter comments about the sun still rising tomorrow or whatever), but it is a big deal in terms of perception. If the school ever wants to be taken seriously, it has to take itself seriously first. You would never see that thing walking around at any major University in the country. UL could be like the schools that use the artichoke as a mascot, but I think the fact that none of us can name that school means something here.

I don't really see where we need a "mascot". There's no reason why a mascot must be incorporated in a logo, or the other way around. And forcing it, like what UL is doing right now, is ridiculous. UL has a great FDL logo that can be used as the primary logo. It looks great and it's classy, and with the proper effort, can be used as our primary symbol, like the UT Longhorn. If we must, they could always buy a gator costume or something and dress a cheerleader up in that and they can walk around during games and entertain kids. If they wanted something more traditional, then they could buy a real dog like a catahoula or whatever, and bring that out during games, but that doesn't mean that you have to dress up a person in a furry dog suit or a vegetable or whatever. It comes down to common sense and I can't see how, when any of those pepper suits were purchased, that nobody thought it was a bad idea.

The bottom line here is that this school has enough problems with money, administrative perception, lack of success, etc without imposing other embarassments on itself with it's logo's and mascots. Just got to Keep It Simple.

And since this is a thread about the black uni's, I'll offer my opinions...

Whoever said that it was probably more of a statement thing to wear those at LSU, was right. I don't see any other reason to buy uni's like that and break them out on the road, it just doesn't make sense. Plus, there is really no other reason to have a third uniform for Basketball. I did see a few pictures though, and I thought they looked good.

Black for baseball and softball are cool, because you'll use a 3rd uni more often than the other sports.

And, if you wear black for football as a novelty and not as a permenant uniform, then you better have a damn good reason.

And for all of you that don't like having the black as one of our colors, Utah sure looked good with having black as a third/accent color last night and all season. This is something that I would really like to see UL do, if they do it right like Utah. But, I don't think they've used black in the right way as of yet.

Rhineaux, that's one of the best statements about how I feel that I've ever read. Over the years, I've probably spent 50 pages trying to say what you said in two sentences!

Dildy was working hard to boost the Cajuns last night. I myself have a failing voice this AM after sharing some thoughts with the refs about their job peformances.

In any event "a win is a win is a win" as they say and the Cajuns move onto the next game.

By the way I saw Scott Farmer being interviewed by the ESPN play by play guy at halftime while old Wimp took a food foodie break.

Anyone know what Scott told the TV audience?
