CajunNation, I don’t doubt that you have voiced your opinion on the uniform change from day one. I actually agree with you in terms of marketing and establishing a brand identity we should have some consistency in school colors.
My concerns are more in long term funding and vision. What is more important to me at this moment is presenting a short and long term vision statement. Many have talked about it on this board, but once that plan is completed and delivered to the public, what is each person on this board willing to pay towards this athletic program?
In other words, are we wasting our time complaining about uniform’s when the more important question is, what are people willing to pay for a better athletic program with measurable results?
The last Vermilion football jersey I saw was in 1973 and you see it painted on murals in the stadium. What I consider Vermilion (there are different interpretations as to what Vermilion is) is the fleurs and LOUISIANA painted on the field.
Uniqueness is what I am interested in, and coupled with success UL gear might become a hot commodity if nobody else has it.
NOW I see the unis on the CST replay that just started at noon. Yeah, I really don't like our team in black, but that's what many basketball teams are doing now. The absolute WORST black unis I've ever seen are DUKE'S. At least black and red (even vermillion!) looks better than BLACK AND BLUE!!!
Oh yeah, and Jordy Holtberg sounds like a FREAKIN' RETARDED IDIOT trying to say Chris Gradnigo's name!!!
(Actually, I shouldn't insult retarded idiots that way! )
That was Lyn Rollins that butchered Gradnigo's name, if you're talking about the CST telecast. Even when Collis Temple III took a much better stab at it, Lyn still hosed it over and over. Did he really think he was getting that right?
Anyhow... the black didn't look good, isn't one of colors, and hopefully won't be worn again. But, I don't get too wound up on the colors as much as the play. No, we didn't win... but I got several calls and messages from LSU friends that were extremely impressed with the Cajuns. We see it one way... some see it differently. I would rather play a really good game, on local TV, against LSU or others, have it not be a blow-out... than to play horribly. We didn't get a win... but we did get some respect... wins haven't been ours in basketball for far too long... but respect is a close cousin. If you lived where I do, you'd understand why a little respect has some value to an alum. Now, let's go win the Belt.
Yes. I did.
Why is it when anyone starts pointing out the errors of previous decisions in marketing of our university, a few people have to always bring up the same BS stance of "Quit talking about this and tell me what are you going to do move us forward"?My concerns are more in long term funding and vision. What is more important to me at this moment is presenting a short and long term vision statement. Many have talked about it on this board, but once that plan is completed and delivered to the public, what is each person on this board willing to pay towards this athletic program?

This is a poor attempt at trying to end discussion and change the subject because they don't like where the discussion is heading.
Besides, correcting past and ongoing mistakes in marketing is a big part of moving this university forward in the future.
If people who disagree with us and think that the way we market is fine, that's one thing, but to say that by discussing this we are wasting ou time tells me that some people might not fully understand what having a vision for our future really means.
