Not bad at all, Boomer, considering the loss of personnel we suffered and where we were originally projected to finish. Not having Dez at 100% and the losses at the LB position hurt us bad. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to the '09 season and, among other things, fulfilling my plans to attend the Cornhusker game.
The cajuns took a small step forward this year but underachieved overall. If you can manage a step forward every year, though, it won't take long to be ranked very high.
I'm fully aware that everyone has injuries. Ours were key, disruptive and in many cases season ending.
The #89 ranking is what it is. Since we're sharing opinions on it, I am of the opinion it represents improvement despite the "fact of life" injuries that crippled us.
I share your opinion on preseason anything (rankings, all american teams, bowl invites, etc. It's all media BS) but if we need a measuring stick, the preseason ranking is about the only thing we have. Ask FAU fans where they were ranked in the 2008 preseason and what it meant at that time.
OK, so we've moved up about 20 points over last year. Our goal for next year is to move up another 20 points. Let's see if we can finish next year in the mid to upper 60's. I can live with that. Contineous improvement is all that I ask................

IMO if we lost Des and had not lost any of the defensive players, our record would have been better.
What's crazy is a lot of folks thought before the season the DLine and also the D Backs were big question marks and the LB corp was "locked and loaded". Turned out the DL played well enough and DBs Keyes, Bentley, Aurienne, Blount & Co. did well enough but first the dismissal of LB BB and then the injuries to Fleming and Cox hurt us bad.
Daylon McCoy came on strong at LB and then he got hurt. When you move a TE to LB mid season and throw in an undersized true freshman, it's bad. For whatever reason senior Vance didn't contribute as much as I would have thought he could.
Everybody is back on D but Keyes, Coleman and Vance IF the hurt LBs heal up properly. Everybody coming back should be bigger, stronger and well seasoned in '09.
The unquestioned leader on D IMO is Antoine Zanders.
It's halftime and I'm watching the Boise Bowl and Nevada's QB, the WAC offensive player of the year, got his ankle rolled and left the field awfully gimpy. Coach Ault said they may have to go with their #2 QB in the second half.
I'll go out on a limb here and say Nevada shouldn't have a drop off at all in offensive production (every team suffers injuries and personnel losses).
Second half coming up.
