Thread: I-Bowl Watching?

Went to the game with my brother (a tech alum). Have to say tech filled their part, but was sorely empty on the other. Anounced attendance was 41000. Every tech fan I spoke to said they had wished they picked the cajuns, so it would've packed the stadium and had a lot better atmosphere. There was a couple of stories on the news up there about the future of the I-bowl. I-bowl tried to hide the fact that they are struggling and if they don't get a title sponsor soon, we won't be able to get ____ed about not being picked to go there, because it won't be there.

I agree, I don't think that the Independence bowl is going to be around next year. With that said, the stadium will be dying to get anyone there or the stadium will become a relic. I think that the Sunbelt should go to the ownership of that stadium, talk to them about adding a bowl game in the stadium because it seems logical. The sunbelt has had 2 bowl eligible teams every year since 2004, and 7 of the 9 conference members are within driving distance which gives them a good chance of attracting out of town fans. Then you go and fill the other half of the bowl with either the 8th or 9th place big 12 or sec team (because they just lost that bowl slot). That is how you get a bowl that will be stable (knowing that there will always be a team from 1 of the 2 conferences that are affiliated in the game) and you put yourself in position to get a bcs team on a neutral site. Win win for everyone.

I will give the I-Bowl credit. In the photos I've seen so far, looks like the side opposite the press box was much fuller than the press box side, so they got the bulk of the crowd in front of the cameras.

Real crowd was 28,000 to 31,000. Tech did their part but the bowl laid an egg on the opponent but who didn't think that Tech would easily handle their 14,000 tickets and the I-Bowl pre-sells around 15,000. The only concern Tech should have had on tickets was that so many of their fans know people connected to the businesses that buy tickets every year to give away. You can make bank that at least 5,000 Tech fans made it into the stadium without paying and I don't blame 'em.

The weather was fine considering that just a few hours made a huge difference. Had that cold front been on top of Shreveport at game time, it would have been a mess.

Other than a mistake ridden, turnoverfest that the game turned out to be, where each offense generated 10 points a piece, it was not bad at all.

Boy I sure wish some of those "die hard", true blue LSU A & M at Baton Rouge fans that never attended the university would pay attention to this. I know people that graduated from the likes of Nichols St, McNeese, and even UL that fly LSU flags in the yard and have LSU stuff all over their vehicles and constantly annoy me with their LSU shirts and hats. The only time these people have ever been on the LSU campus is to attend a game. Great sense of emotional attachment there. Guess with LSU it is just different...must be mandated by the legislature to "love" LSU...

    billdog74,

If those same folks who annoy you were to pack Cajun Field instead of Tiger Stadium, would they still bother you?

I'm going on the assumption you think billdog74 is a Cajun fan? Then you missed the boat my friend, he is a Tech fan.

I don't care who comes to games as long as the Cajuns are winning. But if you are going to attend another university's sporting events in your programs attire, then there should be an expectation of being razzed by Cajun fans. Only in Louisiana is their an expectation to bow down before fans that wear the purple & gold at other schools athletic events.

If I take the time out of my life and the money out of my wallet to support/cheer for any other program, that should be enough to please most reasonable/objective people. If it's not, then I suggest some don't have their eye on the ball. imo

I suggest you visit other football venues in your LSU attire, like Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, etc; Let me how that goes when you return. Again, some LSU people think they should be treated like royalty for visiting Cajun Field. If you think you are any different then any other visiting programs fans, I suggest you forget about the eyes and get a brain scan.LOL!!!

Oh, I have been to a few passionate venues and I survived without scars.

I think that for the most part we find what we seek and we get what we give. As to the attire, it's not the attire that makes the fan anymore than it's the attire that makes the man. imo

Tell you what, you don't hold me responsible for "some LSU people" and I will not hold you responsible for some UL people.

My wife tells me a "brain scan" is useless for me cause you 1st have to have a brain to scan.
