Thread: Question

    Default Question

I know that this is not sports related but in a way it is as it would relate to out of state recruiting. Can anybody on this page explain to me why the students in the dorms have to totally vacate their rooms at semester? I e-mailed housing with no response. Talk about a pain in the butt for out of state recruits! My daughters belongings are scattered between her roomates's house in Lake Charles, another teamates apartment and a locked room off of the lockeroom. What a joke! We live 17 hours away. This is another reason why it will be hard to get out of state recruits there unless they can get in to Legacy as part of their scholorships. I hear they do not have to "clear out" at semester. If the crime situation around the dorms is so bad that the school does not want to take responsibility for their students rooms for a month then I may have had second thoughts on agreeing to her attending UL. She could have went to UW-W but wanted to experience someplace "out-of-state". I know this is a really small issue, but it really does relate to the recruiting issues discussed on this page. I have asked every other parent from my daughters club team whose daughter has gone out of state and UL is the only school that requires this. WHY??

WC, the only answer I have for you is that they only keep a couple of dorms open during semester breaks because they don't have the staff to keep the others open. I know it's been brought up on this forum before that the athletes need much better accomodations than they're presently getting.

Thats not a good reason. The dorms are locked. The rooms are locked and the police are a block away from the girls dorms. Makes no sense. They even have to take everything off the walls so I am not sure they even get the same room.

I agree. It's been like that since I was there in the early '80s. By the way, what team does your daughter play on (if you don't mind my asking)?

We've had a record December so far and we have just started the winter! Tired of it already. Made the daughter shovel the driveway. She's ready to head back south!

I doubt anyone asks that when they enroll. What they ask is why FAU is ahead in the bowl game being played on ESPnuts when LA-Lack isnt.

They can direct that last question to Wright Waters. If he would have spent as much time reading the "contracts" that turned out not to be binding contracts as he did lobbying the Motor City Bowl to take the 4th place FAU then they wouldn't be able to ask that question.

call (337)482-1000, ask for the housing departments number, then when you call them speak directly to Lisa Landry and complain, thats about the best thing I can think of, shes in charge of the whole show when it comes to housing.

I know at Sam Houston State, the students have to check out at the end of the semester, but they are able to leave things in their room for the month that they're gone. They can leave their tv's, refrigerators, and other bigs things so that they only have to bring a few things home with them.

I lived on campus at UL for five and it was a real pain emptying out my room and stuffing everything in my 89 Nissan Sentra and driving to Lake Charles every three months. UL Housing did a lot of things that I didn't and still don't understand. After the seeing the way other universities run their residence halls, I believe that UL needs some change.

Please call Dr. Savoie he should be able to address this problem. UL has done things for so long "because that's the way we have always done it!" We need people to call Dr. Savoie and maybe we can get true CHANGE! God only knows what could be changed after 30+ years of you know who...
