Thread: Last-second shot dumps UL

  1. UL Basketball Last-second shot dumps UL

The UL men's basketball team found out just how much it needs Travis Bureau on the court Sunday night against Sam Houston State in the Cajundome.

The Cajuns shot 41 percent from the field, and with the game on the line it was Willie Lago guarding Bearkat point guard Ashton Mitchell as he drilled a jumper from the elbow with 3 seconds left, giving the Southland Conference club a dramatic 56-54 upset win.

"The name of the game is you have to make shots," said UL coach Robert Lee. "We can draw up all the fancy offenses we want, but at the end of the day you have to make shots. We had no offense."

I sure thought this year the cajuns would be much better. Now it's the injury bug?

"We only scored 31 in the first half, defensively we held them to 22," Lee said. "They did a better job of scoring in the second half. When you only score 23 points in a half, you aren't going to win many games."

Earth to Coach Lee.....Earth to Coach Lee.....a team did just that at the Cajundome Sunday....
