  1. UL Baseball Drainage at Tigue Moore Field

Saturday, I was listening to the Mr. Bitter show with Louisiana head baseball coach Tony Robichaux.

The subject of Lady Cajun Park came up and how it has underground drainage. He said he wouldn't be surprised if they were able to get some games in even though it had been raining almost non-stop for a solid week.

Tigue Moore field has no underground drainage system, and although a tarp protects the infield, that horde of water ends up going to the outfield which can't drain its own overabundant portion.

Well coach Robichaux was right, the Lady Cajuns tournament although hampered and slowed by the rain, got in a couple of games on Saturday.

I asked coach if I sensed an outfield drainage project coming on and he answered yes. When you have teams coming in from out of state and have offered them a guarantee, you simply cannot afford to bring them to town simply to stay in a hotel room.

If I recall correctly he said some other school received a 2 million dollar gift for just such a project. I don't know how efficient this project can be done at Tigue Moore field, but it needs to be done.

On a related but separate subject, do you recall how flooded the Southwest endzone of "The Swamp" was during the 2002 football season? Well a drainage system was installed in the off season before the 2003 season and it worked the water did not saturate this past season.

A drainage system has helped football, and sotball, I hope Tony gets the drainage system he needs at Tigue Moore field.

    UL Baseball baseball

i don't know how you guys feel! but i can tell you how i feel; i've always felt that baseball it seems, been put to the side, maybe i'm being a little bit harsh but i can remember a few years back (baseball/facility etc.)improvements to the tigue and offices were suppose to happen in phases! especially, offices and locker room, is there anyone out there who can shedd some light on the subject, am i jumping the gun? also, it can't be said enough the job coach Robe and his staff is doing both on and off the field,(sressing acadamics and discipline both on an off the fied) congratulation to baseball, you are doing it right.......some people are satisfied with just winning and everything else, well! who cares, all is forgotten, some of you people out there need to take notice, and if you haven't read the article in the sunday paper, you need to, and please pay attention to what is happening to prepare these kids for life after baseball. COACH ROBE AND STAFF WE LOVE YOU.

  3. UL Baseball Ragin' Cajuns anxious to hit the field

LOUISIANA La. — If the Ragin’ Cajuns were using wooden bats, they’d probably have gnawed teeth marks in them by now.

That’s how anxious Louisiana’s baseball squad is to get started, and how frustrating Mother Nature has been to the Cajun team over the past week.

“We’ve tried to do everything we could,” said Cajun coach Tony Robichaux. “We’ve moved the tarp on and off and tried to take some infield, hit in the cages, thrown indoors. It’s been a challenge.”

Weather permitting, UL Lafayette will finally get to open its season Wednesday night when UL Monroe visits Moore Field for a 6:30 p.m. contest. That comes on the heels of a three-game weekend series with Sam Houston that was totally washed out by rain and wet field conditions.

Since the middle of last week, the Cajuns have spent practice time in the Moore Field batting cages, at Lafayette High, inside Blackham Coliseum and in the barns behind Blackham — just about everywhere except their Moore Field home facility.

“We’ve kind of been vagabonds,” Robichaux said. “We’ve been bouncing back and forth. We had a really sloppy practice Sunday, but today (Monday) we were finally able to intrasquad some. We’ve been doing everything we’re capable of doing.”

Are you listening on the real radio? If so, give us updates. Dadgum internet switched over to basketball. Sure wish they could have waited until the baseball was over!

Thanks thanks thanks for the updates. I don't like basketball much but I hate when CBS, NBC, ABC or KPEL preempt the captive audience.

Pitched very well. Took a little while for the bats but better late than never. Hope it's a sign of things to come. Geaux Cajuns!

Great game by the Cajuns. I was impressed with the Monroe team. They have a quality ball club. Once our pitching got settled in, we just overmatched them. Our bats came through in the end. Hopefully this is just the start of a great season.
