UL Basketball Wrong Defense Last Night??

Is it just me or are there others out there that think we should have at least tried to play a zone defense last night against a smaller and quicker team? It was obvious to me from the start that our guys were chasing there guards on defense and were forced to double team the dribbler, leaving NT shooters wide open looks of which they took advantage.

To me, we could have put a lot more pressure on their shooters (and had a better chance of blocking out on rebounds) if we would have been in a zone and forced them to shoot over our long armed defenders such as Bureau.

I sure can't disagree. Lamar's little guard did whatever he wanted against us when we played Lamar. Our guys are tall and athletic, but can't keep up with solid teams that run an offense around motion, screens, and quick guards. I don't think Robert Lee could figure out what to do with NT. Our biggest issues are on the offensive side of the court. I think we have assembled good-to-great long athletic talent... and may just have to succumb to getting in better shape (cardio)... RUNNING, GUNNING, PRESSING and rolling the bench over and over.

I remember the Lamar game well as you mentioned and feel we were outquiked (if there's such as word) in that game as well by 2 smaller guards and think we tried zone on 1 possession only and again forced the man-man.

I really believe that good defense (zone when necessary) creates offense, especiialy transition offense. Getting beat time after time against better in the Lamar game and the NT game has to be de-moralizing to the team and thus tends to affect our offense.

The only players that move well with out the ball are Roberson and (finally) Gradnigo.
