He didn't like the idea of coming in behind Booker and Walker, both being red-shirted. He is a good kid, wish him the best of luck. The staff made a commitment to offering local talent, this is one that decided his opportunity is not at UL. The good thing is we are on three other backs that are just as good. Coming soon!

I've arranged for all three to suit and play a game on Saturday for CajunT and I.
I'll take pictures of it, and he'll ask them "what's up?"

    And you'll all know.

    How's that?

Marcus Wiltz said the college recruiting wars aren't a lot of fun right now.

From the pressure of having to make a decision that will affect his future to the constant contact with eager college recruiters, Cecilia High's star running back said he's looking forward to the process being over.

Wiltz has gotten one step closer to that end by eliminating the UL Ragin' Cajuns off of his short list.

If Mr. Wiltz chooses to go somewhere else, I wish him nothing but the best. However, I hope everyone will remember in a year or two that this coaching staff made every effort to sign this local prospect and gave him every opportunity to be a Cajun. However, it appears that Wiltz may not want to accept the opportunity that was presented to him. But with that said, I have been told that our coaches have had their eyes on another couple of backs that are as good (or better) than Wiltz, but they happen to reside in other states (translation-not local kids). I'm sure we will sign another quality running back, but apparently it won't be the Cecilia Bulldog.

But please folks, let's not start saying that the Cajuns don't sign local kids!!! All Mr. Wiltz had to do was commit and he would be a Cajun. This should not be blamed on the coaches. Way too many local kids think that the grass will be greener on the other side of the fence, only to learn a little later that there is no way to climb over the fence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a good spot to list "local" kids the Cajuns have offered and list who has committed and where. Feel free to add to it.

Ragin' Cajuns Recruiting local kids....Marcus Wiltz

We complain about not going bowling?

I complain about losing a kid 20 miles down the road.....Wonder if this would have happened had we defeated Ryan St. last season? We are having trouble recruiting our own back yard against the likes of McNeese and ULM---and we want to compete on the National Level? It should be a slam dunk that if we wnat a local kid he is ours and we obviuosly aren't there yet.

It is one thing to lose a local kid to Texas, or LSU or to see a kid we don't really recruit go to McNeese. But to lose a kid to McNeese that we want? I am hopeful that the Cajuns really didn't want this kid because we have "Bigger fish" in our sights

If you look at the current CAJUNS roster, at least 80% of the kids on there right now are from one state: LOUISIANA. Just because someone else gets a kid we were after doesn't mean we won't get someone better!!!

He may want to get away from home like I did. Of course, went completely out of state (Oklahoma State, that is!).

If you read the advertiser story (in the other wiltz thread) you would have read what he said about his decision to not be a cajun. He didn't want to live 20 miles from his home. It wasn't anything on ul's part.

    From the advertiser...

"I've just decided that I didn't want to go to school that close. I wanted to get away from my family a little bit and kind of start out into the world on my own.''

Nothing wrong with that! That's why I ended up at UL instead of LA Tech.

I read somewhere else that he wasn't thrilled that UL had the 2 RS FR RBs from last year either - i.e. playing time for him may have been an issue. You just never know what is going on inside an 18- or 19-yr old's head.

Perhaps his grades were questionable....no recruit is a slam dunk, unfortunately. We move onto greener pastures!!!
