I can't believe anyone that watched the way Elfrid has sparked this team in the last 3-4 games could say he might become a journeyman.

Dude's figuring it out fast, and his shot's improving fast. He's way less timid. He's a boss on the court. He runs that team. They feed off him.

Ask Harden and the Rockets. Ask Wade and the Heat. Ask Kobe, who sat out because of "old age" because he knew he was about to get owned. Elfrid's not playing around.

Not trying to hate on Elfrid. Because I definitely dont think he'll be a journeyman. But, I've seen journeymen who are nice sparks for their teams. Jarrett Jack comes to mind. Being a journeyman doesn't necessarily mean you suck. It often means you're a player that is decent enough that other teams want you (with a team friendly contract) but not essential enough to the success of a team that they make them the face of the franchise. Like I said, I dont think Elfrid will be a journeyman, but journeyman doesn't equal bad or ineffective.

Elfrid is probably the worst shooter under 6'8" in the NBA and definitely the worst FT shooter. It is a testament to the rest of his game that he plays significant minutes on the court. If he can just be an average NBA shooter he will be a borderline allstar. If he does not improve his shot he will become a journeyman NBA player.

But you are right. It does say a lot about the rest of his game that he gets the minutes he's getting. I would also credit the fact that he's a rookie that the Magic are trying to develop and the fact that the Magic are not very good to him getting a lot of PT. But he's making the most of it.

The NBA announced that second-year guard Victor Oladipo and rookie point guard Elfrid Payton will play in the Rising Stars Challenge on Feb. 13 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

"I'm excited," Payton said shortly after he heard the news. "I'm blessed. I'm humbled and happy that the hard work has paid off, even more excited that my man gets to come with me, with Vic. I think he's having a great year, a pretty good year, and obviously it's being noticed."
