Scott Prather indicated he thinks the Clippers would be a good spot for Elfrid. Scott has some NBA connections so maybe he was giving a hint there.

I bet the Knicks knew this was going to happen when they waived him. He was supposed to make 9 million under the old contract which was a club option. He did receive a 1 million dollar waiver fee as part of his old contract. Some of the contracts being given out shock me with the revenue streams down. No way I can justify Charlotte giving Gordon Hayward 120 million over 4 years. You are going to soon see a system where 2 guys make up 50 percent of a salary pool and the other 13 split up the other 50 percent.

    Good point Mike!

This is definitely happening. Been watching MLB teams turning players loose in team option situations since the season ended. NBA now, NFL is next. Egos getting set to be crushed.

College sports, especially football, will change. The big payday games the P5 doled out to G5s will be a thing of the past as long as we live in a masked world.

Covid has provided the perfect storm. Schools making noise this year aren't bearing the fruit of higher attendance which leads to generational fans. Pro sports shot themselves in ars with gun of wokeness (regardless where you may align) on top of Covid.

Afraid much of what we see today will look totally different in 20 years.

Looks like he resigned for NYK for $5M/1 year, so massive season for him.

Figured they would go all out for a PG in FA.

  6. NFL, NBA, MLB Knicks obliterate Bucks as Elfrid Payton goes off

Will the real Elfrid Payton please stand up?

One night after the Knicks starting point guard put forth his worst performance as a Knick in a scoreless disaster, he emerged Sunday to bludgeon the powerhouse Bucks in a 130-110 stunner that gave Tom Thibodeau his first victory as Knicks head coach.

That may have been EP’s best game as a pro. He even went three for three from
Trifecta land. He also held former Pelican Jrue Holiday to only 8 points. Interesting in that his best game came against one of the Eastern conference favorites. Bet he worked extra hard after a poor game previously. That was his approach here. Congratulations to EP.

If Elfrid Payton plays one more season in the NBA he'll officially have played more seasons in the NBA than any former Ragin Cajun/Bulldog. According to Basketball Reference he's appeared in 16 more games than Andrew Toney who is second on the list and currently tied with him for seasons played. Even though Toney is leading in points EP is blowing him out in offensive and total rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. Despite playing point guard he also has less turnovers and fouls.
I know he's not the best pro basketball player we've ever had but he's certainly done a decent job of sticking around in the NBA.

He has been a pretty decent backup PG for every team he has played on, when he was the starting PG for each team, they were usually looking to replace him. He will have a spot in this league as long as he is a serviceable backup PG. He is finally a very good team. His biggest issues have been in this order:

    * Injuries (cost him a ton of playing team, nearly every season)
    * 3 Point Shooting (career 28.7% 3 point shooter, awful this season)
    * Free Throw shooting (career 62.7% FT shooter, this year below 50%)

But when you look at his overall career numbers they are pretty good:

    10.3 ppg
    4.1 rpg
    5.9 apg
    career 44.8% FG %

He has played for Orlando (horrible), Phoenix (that year they were bad), New Orleans (they were terrible when he played for them) and NY Knicks (last year they were OK, but before that terrible). This year he is playing on the team with the best record in the NBA and has only played 34 games of their 54 games.

In his 8 season he has played in 82 games twice ('14-'15 season and '16-'17 season) other than that he has played in the following:

    73 games
    63 games
    42 games
    45 games
    63 games
    now 34 of 54 games

When he got traded from Orlando he was in the midst of his best season. Then when he was in New Orleans the team wasn't structured well and Anthony Davis had told the team he was leaving before the season even started which made it worse. Glad he's on a good team now, even if he is third-string because the guy couldn't catch a break for the longest.
