Just read this from Billy Ryckman's buddy Jimmy Watson. It's a crime to threaten someone's life. Is Jimmy Watson exaggerating to sell papers or can he back it up?
He wrote:
"I don't know about the rest of the country but a lot of folks in northwest Louisiana are getting sick of hearing from the Ragin' Cajun nation, although calling it a nation is like calling Danny Devito a giant.
Some folks have even intimated that they're going to send the ULers a case of cheese to go with their whine.
Just a few short months ago, folks in Lafayette were calling Shreveport and Bossier City crappy towns ... too crappy in fact to be worth us hosting the LHSAA's Boy's Top 28 basketball tournament. They called us hicks and one fellow even threatened to shoot me if I showed up in Lafayette. Then their good'ol boy, backdoor politics got them the Top 28 bid, even though the SRSA's bid was far better.
One of their arguments was that no one from south Louisiana would come all the way up here to see their kids play in a state tournament. For some reason, the LHSAA board listened to the ignorance.
Now that we have a bowl game they want to get in, suddenly they're going to bring thousands of paying customers our way. Yeah, right.
With all of the lies being thrown around UL-Lafayette (no one north of your city limits calls you the University of Louisiana), it'll be surprising if any bowl ever takes UL. There have been threats on the life of I-Bowl executive director Missy Setters and her family from some of the Cajun faithful. Now, that's class.
Maybe we don't have all of the amenities of other bowl cities, but we do have a lot of people with too much integrity to do what you guys are doing. That's something we can hang our hats on."
Billy, get him back on your show and have him PROVE this slander. Josh Parrott, you spoke to Missy Sellers today, did she say her life or anyone in her family's life had been threatened? Some of the posters had raised the possibility that the Top 28 may have had something to do with UL not getting the Indy Bowl bid and it appears you were right! It's one thing to have opinion, it is quite another to be a credible sports journalist and write such incredible libel! I say again, if he can prove someone made a credible threat to kill anyone, that is a crime and should be prosecuted. If he does not have credible evidence of a threat, he should not say he does.
