No it's not a misrepresentation of facts. It is the number one overriding fact as to how one kid gets talked about like the number one recruit in America & another ends up at Mc Neece when there aint a hell of a lot of difference some times, Especially with linemen. The SUPER VAST majority of the kids that are listed on Rival's or Scouts nationwide get placed, looked at, & blown up do it at the corporate sponsored camps from the national websites.
It only makes sense. Any one who doesn't do that is begging to never be seen, visited, or heard from much at all by most FBS coaches until their Senior year is done unless they are all state every year. And that's a fact. I don't know why someone from one of those sites wouldn't trumpet that fact, much less deny it as truth.
I wish I had a dollar for every coach I talked to yesterday who told me that very same thing. I'd be eating super free tonight. And further more BJ quit getting your panties knotted up. I've helped you and the NUT fund and supported your site more than you ever helped me Chief. So don't even go there on here bra. I know yor feelings are hurt. But mine are a nell of a lot more hurt & with good damn reason. Had I gotten Josh to one of those camps last year there wouldn't be any confusion because we'd be getting shown the front door to all the select camps instead of fighting for the back door with the rest of the outsiders. Now that may be a thing which has just taken on a life of it's own over the past several years. You know kind of like that internet fad. I'm warning any parent of any want to be college athlete or potential recruit. Either go to one of those corporate sponsored combines or suffer the concequences.
Anyone who doens't believe that, then why in the hell are you wasting money following Scouts Or Rivals?
I watched a kid from Westminster last year named Noah Marks. Noah was a bruiser of an offensive lineman and was 6'5" plus and weighed 320 pounds. I saw Noah at the LSU lineman camp last year & the UL select camp. IMO Noah was one of the top three linemen at both camps. Noah's family paid money to be on the NCSA site. Noah went to no telling how many camps last summer. And Noah was an outstanding bruiser who had a tape which can still be viewed on YOU Tube or the NCSA web site. Noah was better than my son is right now. IMO Noah was good enough to play at any college in this country & could play in the NFL if he set his mind to it. He is that good. I think Noah ended up at NSU. What mistake did Noah Make. I don't think he ever attended a corporate sponsored combine. That is the difference between the haves & the have nots in this country. The haves know the system & how to take advantage of it. The have nots don't.
You keep saying "in my opinion." Guess what?? YOUR OPINION DOESN'T MATTER!!!! YOU, RIVALS, NOR SCOUT HAVE ZERO, I REPEAT, ZERO SCHOLARSHIPS TO OFFER!! I hate to be brutal, but your opinion nor the man on the moon means nothing.
You probably think I'm just trying to be a jack@$$; I'm honestly not. If you're upset and believe coaches truly rely on those websites to recruit, blame them!! You're obviously passionate about this "issue." Maybe You should start your own recruiting website and rate all the leftovers. Apparently there's a lot of talent that you personally could expose. You would get to do what you love and apparently change kids lives by getting them in P5 schools instead of ULMost and eating Olive Garden breadsticks for meals.
Again, let your son bust _____ on the field and good things will happen. I wish you and him the best...
I could be way off here, but I'd put my money on the fact that Scout and Rivals only rate the kids at their camp because it would literally be impossible to not only grade every kid in the United States, but continuously update their progression (or regression).
T, I understand if you wanna sit this debate out and not respond to this, but would this be a logical guess??
Yeah, coaches don't use those web sites as a major tool to help them recruit. They don't read the papers or message boards either. So none of this matters to anyone. So then why are you wanting to put in your two cents then? You're a fool if you don't believe coaches use these web sites as a major tool to help them recruit. They not only use these sites to help them recruit, but a lot of the top "P5" schools won't dare make a move on a kid unless he's rated by these particular sites. That is a fact of life that all your opining, or mine won't change. And if you don't believe that then maybe one day God will bless you with a son or daughter who happens to have skill to play college sports & then run the game your way & find out what happens.
There's always a way to get from here to there. Some people use GPS & take super highways. Some people use state highways, & road maps. Some people stop at the local gas station & coffee shop & ask for directions & take local parish roads. Quit getting so offended & worrying about which one of your padnas your opinion has me throwing under the bus. I'm not even talking to you unless you have a son or daughter competing in high school athletics or you're a coach. Whoever you are, tell your kids to get their combine & get in the ratings book, or be left out in the cold. You just as soon not take the ACT, or fill out your paperwork with the NCAA clearing house.
Rival's & Scouts may not give out scholarships just as the ACT doesn't give out scholarships. Try to get into college without it & see how far you go.
Edit: And you continuously go to the let him bust butt out on the field trump card. How could anyone possibly whip more ___ than Xenno did? What did that get him? An all expense paid trip to Lake Charles? He was possibly the best overall athlete in this state & he got nodda from the FBS. Had he been a rival's Scout wonder boy. They would have been making up new positions to play him at. I see him a designated H-back, rover back, monster back, full back, tight end/linebacker/defensive end/ long snapper. Son, have you ever tried kicking field goals?
Neither UL OL commits in the last few days attended any Nike or NUC Combine in Texas. Both attended camps at schools that were interested in them or they liked. Those combines help, but don't have anything to do with getting on Rivals, 247, ESPN Scout INC. or Scout.com. I have to add kids all the time because someone from Scout didn't create a bio on a kid for many different reasons including injury. Remember this, Elijah McGuire wasn't even classified in the right class correctly on any recruiting network because he was injured his junior year and fell of the radar. It happens more often, then not.
Now you're getting it Sherlock. And that's exactly why not every parent of a potential recruit is encouraged, or even informed with the knowledge that the best thing to do is to go to the damn combine. Because they aren't turning anyone away at the combine because they're making money. So you pay your dough & run your forty, shuttle, verticle jump, & broad jump. When the coaches see that. It gives them a starting point to see who to invite to their camps besides Mr. America or Bo Jackson. Because there's gonna be one Jedavian Clowney. Then everyone has to work to fight for the leftovers. The only thing is there are way more leftovers for the FBS schools than there are leftovers for the kids who don't get picked.
How do you think a Jahri Evans, Marcus Colston, Terron Armstead, Khiry Robinson, Traveris Cadet, or Chris Ivory could end up in the places they did? And that's just a few from the Saints the past several years. There has to be collateral damage or there is no exclusivity. The fact that these sites will eventually draw the line some where or be completely saturated, means that they have to have a way to discourage the "nare do wells" from entering the golden gates. How do we do that? Through ignorance. But ignorance leads to laziness & apathy. I didn't know my son was going to blow up over the past two years. But he should have been given the same chance to get in the door anyone else had. There were those who knew the combination to the lock at the gate & didn't say ____. And they know who they are. And I'm mad as hell at them & don't give a ____ right now what they think. Right BJ? Now you can accuse me of throwing you under the bus & you'd be absolutely f...ing right.
Kyle, I know where Noah Marks will be playing college football at this summer.
