Late Cajun explosion
UALR takes starter out, and the Cajuns crush relievers.
LOUISIANA La. — It’s easy to second-guess, but Arkansas-Little Rock probably did the Ragin’ Cajuns a major favor when the Trojans pulled starting pitcher Evan Neiser in the seventh inning of their Sun Belt Conference Baseball Tournament elimination game Friday morning.
Neiser was mowing through the Cajun lineup, providing the Trojans with a big lift and more quality innings than expected, but after he left the wheels came off for the UALR squad.
The Cajuns scored three runs in each of the final two innings, and two good offensive innings were enough to override seven poor ones in a 6-1 victory that kept the hosts alive in the double-elimination meet.
Louisiana (30-29), which advanced to a late Friday game against Middle Tennessee, picked up only its third hit of the game when Bryan Sneed singled off Neiser to open the seventh inning.
