Like most runners in their first marathon, Kevin Castille’s goal was to finish the race.

Just finish.

The Lafayette native not only completed the 26.2-mile course at the Baton Rouge Beach Marathon on Saturday, he won going away.

“This being my first marathon, I had a lot of goals — more for my head than my body,” Castille, 36, said. “My first goal was to finish.”

The first overall female winner was Autumn Ray of Galveston, Texas, who set a meet record in 2:58.57.

Castille covered the course, which circled twice a route that included the LSU lakes and surrounding residential neighborhoods, in two hours, 47 minutes. There was no one near him when he strode across the finish line at Baton Rouge Beach.
