Well if I was the UL administration I would have offered to forego the payout for bowl exposure.

If that's true, that's a pretty petty reason to jeopardize your bowl.

At least when the I-Bowl fails, we won't be the school they'll blame.

Most of the lower bowl payouts are hinged heavily on ticket sales allocated to the competing teams. Bottom line is that payout is a little misleading and breaking even or making a slight profit is the real truth.
