If UL's football team secures a berth to play Rice in the Texas Bowl on Dec. 30, the Cajuns can thank Rutgers for clearing the path to Houston.

A 48-13 win by the Scarlet Knights on Thursday eliminated Louisville from bowl consideration. Rutgers also apparently narrowed the field under consideration for an at-large berth in the Texas Bowl.

Before Thursday's win by Rutgers (7-5), Texas Bowl media relations director Zac Emmons told The Daily Advertiser that six teams - UL (6-6), Notre Dame (6-6), North Carolina State (6-6), North Illinois (6-6), Rutgers and Louisville - were in the mix to play Rice (9-3) in the Texas Bowl.
