Huge loss. Condolences to the Edmiston family.

I met Mr Hardy 5 years ago on Michael's first day of two a days and we had become good friends over the years. I made many trips with him over the years to watch the boys play. I'm very thankful that we were able to watch practice together last Saturday together. He was a good friend, great UL supporter and he loved those kids so much. I will miss him greatly as will the kids who almost all came to know him. Patty and I extend our deepest sympathy to David, Jima and Drew on their loss and will keep them in our prayers.
I am the second son of Hardy Edmiston and just wanted to say thank you to all who have spoken such kind words of my father. This man bleed for UL all of his life. He introduce the Bulldogs/Cajuns to me when I was 6 and playing at McNaspy Stadium. We have attended countless UL games together and not just football. He listens to Jay and Stevie P almost daily and would and update me on the shows at least 3 times a week. He and I actually talked about sneaking him out of the hospital to bring him to Cajun Field for the walk and game against MT. He has never missed a walk since Drew began to play and was not very pleased on the possibility of not being there. God had other plans for him this past week and we were blessed that the game was on TV. The game was the last thing he would see on TV and was so proud of the teams efforts and fans attendance. He heard the kind comments from Jay and Steve on the radio and had a smile from ear to ear. He called me from the hospital after the game and I heard stength in his voice. He said he would pray for a bowl game and could not wait for us to attend it together. My father's last night and day was a very difficult day for him. I was with him that night and for those who know him will understand this: he never onced complained, and the pain was intense. Kidney and Heart disease would take its toll and not allow his dream of attending a UL bowl game. But what it did allow was the satifaction of a huge victory, the senior night of some very fine young men, history of records being broken by several players including his grandson and a quarterback which dad has told me for the past 5 years that "he is a player and will go to the next level", a running back who amazed him the first day he saw him at practice and then set the field on fire with his play. 5 years ago my father was given the news about his kidney failure, his only wish was that he lived to see his grandson play in one game. My father was blessed with seeing Drew play out his entire college career. Many of the coaches, along with David Walker, Gerald Hebert, Ken Ardoin, Dr. T-Joe Savioe came by the day before and in his failing moments which brought joy to my father and comfort to my family. When Coach Bustle and Scott Farmer walked into ICU, my dad looked up and gave a "thumbs up" then put his head back down. At 5pm on December 5th, my dad went to a much better place. And when he died, he was embracing his UL Ragin Cajun blanket, because to bleed UL you have to believe in UL and he never once stopped believing in this wonderful University. One last thought: If I had to bet, I would bet that right now as I input this data, he along with Herbert Heymann are fueling up the plane and are planning on being at that bowl game. I hope the Cajuns make it because I would love to be in his presence one more time.
Thank you Cajun Fans!
David Edmiston
I am truly sorry for your loss. The Edmistons sat shoulder to shoulder with my wife and I in Section D2 and they are truly wonderful people! The UL family has suffered a great loss!
I used to wait on Mr. Hardy everyday when I worked at Red's. He was one of the rare special people who brightened the entire facility by just being around. He always had a fantastic attitude and treated all of us with tremendous respect. His passing is a tremendous loss to not only the UL community, but the entire city of Lafayette. My prayers are with Drew and his family as they deal with this difficult time.
At the 2006 reunion for Alvin Dark I was fortunate enough to take quite a few photographs which I forwarded to the Athletic Network.
The focus of the night was Alvin Dark but in hindsight I wish I had taken more pictures of Mr. Hardy.
In the 1st photo George Luffey, Alvin Dark, Hardy Edmiston.
After the Alvin Dark reunion in the lobby of the Hilton I spent over an hour with Mr. Hardy and George Luffy listening to stories of SLI student life, athletic life and good times in general. I could have listened for hours.
