Where is he hiding? Isn't his position some sort of legal position with UL? He does have a law degree.

Hey after my 2 months at Loyola Law School back in the late 60s---I offer this---If the contract is silent on 6-6 teams and the Bowl's having to select a SBC 6-6---ergo it is the Bowl's preference of whom they want to invite--seems that one could argue that the spirit and intent was for the 7-5 rule to filter down to the 6-6ers if in fact no 7-5ers were available. Glad I didn't stay in school!!!!!

I believe this clause is only intended to preclude anyone from entering into an agreement that exclusively includes teams with 6 wins...

If you are an attorney, you would be horrified at what passes for contracts in the athletic world. The typical contract is a letter that says something like this.

    "Dear Bubba:
This is to confirm our telephone conversation that we will play on Sept. 8, 2009 at our stadium and we will pay XYZ State $700,000 for the game. Please sign and return."

If you ever poke around the NCAA web site (they've started closing some of the directories and its not nearly as interesting as it used to be) you can sometimes stumble upon "official interpretations". That's where the NCAA answers questions about rules (not game rules, the NCAA rules). You read the question. The rule. The decision. You scratch your head, read it all again and then have to shrug your shoulders and move on because it makes absolutely no sense.

That's one reason I dont give much weight the the fact that Troy must go to the New Orleans Bowl if they are the only 8-4 team. The NCAA by-laws state they must, but weirder things have happened in the past. What it all boils down to is the fact that the NCAA has plenty of rules and by-laws, BUT they can change them whenever and however they want.

If Troy finishes 7-5, then they won't go to the NO Bowl because ASU would get the nod. But if Troy is the conference champion, then they are obligated to go to the NO Bowl, because no 6-6 Sun Belt program can.

Fixed it to say 8-4. I've typed and 7-5 enitrely too many times lately. But my point isn't debating the rules, I was just pointing out that the NCAA does whatever they want.

You mean like the time a Bobby Knight player at Indiana posed for a fund-raising calendar and got suspended for one game and a week later the NCAA handed down a 2 game suspension to a player at one of the MAC schools in Indiana for the same thing?

So...we want ASU to win so they can lock up the NO Bowl, Troy goes to Papa Johns, and we do not have another regionally close 6-6 SBC team for the others to choose from?

You want ASU to win so you are co-champs.

You want Arizona State to lose and free up Hawaii so Notre Dame will go there instead of Houston.

Indy isn't taking a Sun Belt team.

PapaJohns isn't taking a Sun Belt unless its 7 win Troy.

Houston isn't taking ASU over UL.

Arkansas State winning or losing has zero impact except on whether you get champion rings.

Arizona State winning probably ends your season no matter what happens at Troy today.

Do you predict that WMU goes to the indy? I think that is the only way that they wouldent take a SB team in your scenario unless by some miracle, NC State forgoes the 2 bowl games closer to home (papajohns and motor city) to go to Shreveport. If they don't take a SB team, the options are NIU and Bowling green and why on earth would they sacrifice attendance and game hype just to keep a SB team out.
