Game Night Story Lines
● For the first time in 46 years, Louisiana and Alabama meet on the basketball court. The Ragin’ Cajuns and Crimson Tide square off on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 12 Noon in UA’s Coleman Coliseum.
● With Fall Semester exams next week (Dec. 8-12), the Ragin’ Cajuns next game isn’t until Saturday, Dec. 13 vs. Louisiana College in the CAJUNDOME.
● This is the first of three games in December against SEC competition. The Cajuns visit Tennessee on Dec. 29 and LSU on Dec. 31.
● Louisiana is playing only its second road contest of the season. In the last road outing, Utah Valley bested UL 71-41 on Nov. 22.
● Both teams carry winning streaks. Louisiana has won two straight after a 0-3 start. Alabama has won three consecutive after a 1-2 start.
● This is the first of two trips to the State of Alabama for the Cajuns. Louisiana visits Sun Belt foe Troy on Saturday, Jan. 10.
● Louisiana welcomed back Chris Gradnigo from injury in the last outing. This game could be the final one before Emmanuel Adeife and Lamar Roberson are added to the rotation. Mid-semester transfers from last season, their eligibility status will be determined after final exam grades for the Fall 2008 semester are posted next week.
ALABAMA PREVIEW
● Head Coach Mark Gottfried returns a veteran squad as eight of the 12 members of the Crimson Tide are upperclassmen.
● In a poll by both national and SEC media the Crimson Tide were selected to win the SEC's Western Division.
● This is the second game of a current eight-game homestand for the Crimson Tide. The homestand spans all the way into January when the Crimson Tide leaves to play the Clemson Tigers on Jan. 6.
● Three players are averaging double figures led by Ronald Steele at 13.7 ppg. Senario Hillman (11.7 ppg) and Alonzo Gee (10.3) join Steele in double figures.
● Four of the Tide’s last five opponents have failed to reach 60 points.
● The Tide averages 15.7 free throws made per game.
SERIES HISTORY (ALABAMA LEADS 2-0)
●First meeting since Dec. 4, 1962 – nearly 46 years to the date. This is the first time Louisiana plays in Coleman Coliseum.
●Louisiana was coached by Beryl Shipley and Alabama by Hayden Riley in the last meeting. The Crimson Tide prevailed 59-53.
●The last meeting was also the 1962-63 season opener for Louisiana.
●First meeting between the two programs took place on Jan. 26, 1959 – Bama won 75-58.
