I contend football swallows every penny it raises.

Football is to Athletics what athletics is to a university. The front porch.

Football is the front of the front porch.

Without football you never get an RCAF that benefits all sports, no multipurpose IPF.

But as far as funding other sports directly, or in part? No way, it uses every dime it makes.

Don't the last 2 statements contradict each other? Football drives RCAF, and we've seen incredible growth in the athletic department since Hud has been here, and the football program has become viable. So to say no way to it funding even "in part" doesn't seem to match up.

I guess "funding" may not be the right word. Can we agree that football supports all of the other sports?

Yes there is an RCAF general fund but until it exceeds the percentage UL uses from the overall budget, football can't make the claim that it funds other sports.

------Maybe the way to look at it is to say the football program doesn't lose as much as others----Think of the Monroers and how they have to go deep in the hole in football because of lack of ticket sales, concessions, and product sold and the drain of being a college football program----So the Cajuns are bringing in the bucks for ticket sales, concessions, and brand sales along with RCAF and in kind contributions where we don't have to shell out that money for a project---So we go in the hole but our budget keeps getting bigger and obviously we are spending a lot more!!!

Yes, football is the driving force for most mechanisms that will propel overall athletics forward.

RCAF saw a nice jump in membership during the Regionals and Super Regionals, but without football, there would have been no RCAF.

So yes, I agree with you.

There's a pattern here. Those that perform get rewarded. I'm sure the same will apply to Robe.

And, this is just my opinion, but if Coach Deggs wants to be a head coach and a school like SHSU wants him, I don't think getting him a healthy raise here is going to matter.
Jay, you said Marlin is doing it right by getting a raise and then winning a championship...What is robe doing by winning championships and not getting paid...This guy have been doing good for 20 plus yr and to be at $ 120,000 is a joke...I thought he was in the $250,000 per yr range.

He didn't say "Marlin is doing it right BY getting a raise and then winning a championship"

He said he's doing it the right way. Meaning, running his program the right way. At least that's how I interpreted it.

If Robe wasn't pimping football and basketball in every interview, I would think that he feels slighted. But he does. He talks about how great football and basketball has been for the school. He is a piece of the puzzle just like everyone else. He loves this school, as does Mike. If they are content with what they are getting paid, provided, etc., I'm ok with it. It would be nice to pay all of our coaches $1Mil a year. Fact is, we can't. They aren't going anywhere and they both love and respect their games enough to not let their programs suffer. The train is picking up steam. Patience all. The giant is rubbing his eyes.
