Turbine, great job. You are a tireless researcher and a great fan of the best program in Louisiana.

    Ragin' Cajuns

They wore a solid GOLD helmet in 1961??(The year I was born, by the way!!)

    Does ANYONE know why???

Turbine, I just heard about this website and signed on yesterday and must say this is the Greatest alumni booster I have seen in years. Thanks for all the work and for those who help you on this. the helmet display is awesome. thanks again

Turb, I'm going to guess that during the Terry Don Phillips years (1983-1988), the script "Cajuns" helmet was used, because those were the years surrounding the 1984 name change. I think Stokley changed them back to USL for a while, then it reverted back to the script Cajuns.

That doesn't make sense, the helmets said USL through 1987, in 88 and 89 it had the script cajuns, so I don't really know what point you are trying to make. Not trying to be rude, just wondering if I missed something.

I thought I remembered somebody saying on another thread a couple of months ago that there was going to be a slight change in the helmet for this year. Am I wrong? Just woundering if anybody has seen a picture.

Yeah, you missed something. We had trouble staying the course back then, so we meandered between "USL" & "Cajuns". I'm not sure why we went back to USL after going to the script Cajuns. Now, get back to work, young man! (I know, classes haven't started yet!) BTW, how is your fellow Bulldog alum, Matt Ulm, looking in practice so far?

I have admit Turbine that I like the "Cajuns" script helmet. Perhaps because we won so many games with it. We can go vermilion and zero on the helmets as long as we go 11-0.

I haven't updated the results in 3 years but here is a LINK to the winning percentage for each style helmet.

    '74 and '97 were our best helmets ever.....especially '97!!!!

  13. Default Re: Helmet Project

I hate to start this again, but 97 was the worst ever!!!!

Look I am all for us and the Fleur De Lis, hell I have one tattood on my arm, but the tri mini fleur's were not COOL, in no, way, shape or form.

    Just my opinion.

I am a fan of the Script Cajuns, from back in the day that I attended U(s)L and the current helmets. You will never convince me of the tri Fleur.

I would be okay with a single large fleur de lis on a red helmet but not the one the Saints have, but the one that you see around the campus.

Again Just my opinion, and we all know that they are like a__ holes

I actually liked the old USL. Not usuable now though.

    I'd go with the tri-fleur.

Like you my favorite is the script Cajuns. The one we have now is fine by me also. Thankfully, the tri-fleur was a one year abomination.
Logo's and helmets are the least of our problems, lets hope we can win some football games this year and see tangible progress in athletics.
