    Default Is NIU Setting Ticket Records For Undi-Bowl?

    Not like this.... they are begging people
    .......................................................................................

    "DeKALB - Tickets are now available through the Northern Illinois athletic department for the 33rd Independence Bowl, featuring the 6-6 Huskies taking on 7-5 Louisiana Tech, Sunday, Dec. 28 in Shreveport, La.

    Fans are STRONGLY encouraged to take advantage of the many benefits offered by purchasing tickets directly through the NIU athletic department. In addition to a $5 discount for Huskie Athletic Scholarship Fund members and season ticket holders, all fans ordering from NIU will help the Huskies' fulfill their required bowl allotment. By purchasing through the athletic department, Huskie fans are guaranteed a place in the NIU fan section and a large support base will enhance the program's attractiveness to future bowls.

    Tickets are available at three price levels: $40, $35, and $30 dollars, and fans that are unable to attend can purchase tickets and donate them, significantly impacting NIU's Independence Bowl efforts. Fans should order their tickets by Monday, Dec. 15 for priority seating.

    NIU will offer one FREE ticket to the first 500 Northern Illinois students who will attend the game. To obtain their free ticket, students should come to the Convocation Center Ticket Office or call the office at 815-752-6800. Proper identification will be required before FREE student tickets are distributed.

    In addition, a limited number of student travel packages are available. The package includes a free ticket to the game, travel to Shreveport, and two nights stay at a hotel just minutes from Independence Stadium for just $125. Fans will leave the NIU campus Dec. 26 at 6 p.m. and arrive in Shreveport in time to enjoy all the city has to offer."

    ===============================================================

    They'll arrive in time to see what the city has to offer? No wonder it's a $125 pakage. That "offering" will take only 10 miutes to show the visitors the post office on Greenwood Road and the El Chico restaurant accross the street. After that, there's not much.

    That offer indicates the tickets are purchased. It's just a matter of how much NIU will be able to recuperate and how many of the tickets will actually be used. A lot of schools do the same thing, so they can sway bowl committees with their past ticket sales...and to ensure preferential treatment when there's a tie breaker. Two years ago Rutgers gave away several thousand tix to the SunBowl, and even gave students various economic incentives along with free tickets as an incentive to travel to Arizona.

    Default I thought this was kind of funny.

    In a vain attempt to try to find an active NIU board I found this on their scout.com board. Doesn't look like a whole lot of excitement up there. Does anyone know of an active board?

    It appears the hotels are going all out to draw Huskie fans down.

    This only considers the at large years.

    In 1982 they could have taken 7-3 UL, instead they took 6-5 Wisconsin and 6-4-1 Kansas State.

    In 1989 they could have taken 7-4 UL, instead they took 6-5 Tulsa

    In 1993 they could have taken 8-3 UL instead they took 8-3 Indiana and 8-3 Virginia Tech

    In 2008 they could have taken UL . . .

    If you look at it and think about it. Every year makes sence but this year. I would have gone the way they selected. This year you have the ex boss now running the show at a school you pick. How do you fight that?
